DISCOVER LONG ISLAND, FORMERLY KNOWN AS LONG ISLAND CONVENTION & VISITORS BUREAU AND SPORTS COMMISSION (LICVB & SC) WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1978 AS THE OFFICIAL TOURISM PROMOTION AGENCY FOR THE DESTINATION'S TRAVEL AND TOURISM INDUSTRY. BASED ON LONG ISLAND IN HAUPPAUGE, NY, DISCOVER LONG ISLAND CONTRIBUTES TO THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND QUALITY OF LIFE ON LONG ISLAND BY PROMOTING THE REGION AS A WORLD-CLASS DESTINATION FOR TOURISM, MEETINGS AND CONVENTIONS, TRADE SHOWS, SPORTING EVENTS, AND RELATED ACTIVITIES.

THE MARKETING DIVISION FOCUSES ON INFLUENCING LEISURE TRAVEL DECISIONS THROUGH A COMBINED USE OF DISCIPLINES INCLUDING CONSUMER ADVERTISING, INTERACTIVE AND ONLINE PUBLIC RELATIONS AND COLLATERAL DEVELOPMENT, AND INQUIRY FULFILLMENT. THE SALES DIVISION FOCUSES ON DEVELOPING THREE PRIMARY MARKET SEGMENTS THROUGH DIRECT SALES ACTIVITIES: MEETINGS AND CONVENTIONS, INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL TRADE AND SPORTING EVENTS. DIRECT SALES INITIATIVES AND STRATEGIES INCLUDE SALES MISSIONS, CLIENT SITE FAMILIARIZATIONS AND INSPECTIONS AND TRADE SHOW ATTENDANCE.
