THE SUMMER OF 2021 WAS PARTICULARY HOT. THERE WERE 18 DAYS OF 100+ DEGREE TEMPERATURES. THE AREA USUALLY AVERAGES 85 DEGREES IN THE SUMMER TIME, RARELY EXCEEDING 99 DEGREES. MANY SENIORS, SINGLE PARENTS AND PEOPLE LIVING IN RVS AND TRAILERS IN EMMETT, ID WERE WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONING AT ALL. SOME HAD ADEQUATE A/C. THE MAIN FOCUS FOR THE GOOD SAMARITAN FUND THIS YEAR WAS TO PROVIDE WINDOW AIR CONDITIONING UNITS FOR NEEDY FAMILIES. THE PRIORITY OF RECIPIENTS WAS FIRST THE ELDERLY AND INFIRM, SINGLE PARENTS WITH CHILDREN AND FAMILIES LIVING IN TRAILERS AND RV UNITS. RECIPIENTS WERE VETTER THROUGH SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCIES IN EMMETT, LIKE THE WESTERN IDAHO COMMUNITY ACTION PARTNERSHIP (WICAP) AND GEM COUNTY RECOVERY COMMUNITY CENTER. 21 FAMILIES RECEIVED AIR CONDITIONERS, REPRESENTING APPROXIMATELY 43 INDIVIDUALS.
FOOD OUTREACH: IN 2021, THE EMMETT, ID FOOD DISTRIBUTION WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE GEM COUNTY RECOVERY COMMUNITY CENTER (GCRCC),AND OUR SUPPORT BECAME PROVIDING GAS CARDS TO VOLUNTEERS WHO NOW PICKED UP FOOD TO DISTRIBUTE AND PURCHASING STORAGE CONTAINERS AND SHELVING FOR GCRCC TO SET UP THEIR FOOD PROGRAM.88 GIFT CARDS FOR ALBERTSONS GROCERY STORE WERE PURCHASED TO USE AS EMERGENCY HELP FOR NEEDY FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS.
NURSING HOME OUTREACH: WEEKLY SUNDAY MORNING WORSHIP SERVICES RESUMED IN JUNE 2021 AFTER COVID RESTRICTIONS WERE LIFTED. WERE PLANNED AND LED AT THE APPLE VALLEY RESIDENCE, AN ASSISTED LIVING FACILITY IN EMMETT, ID. THIS INCLUDED MONTHLY COMMUNION SERVICES. BETWEEN 10-15 PEOPLE ATTEND THOSE WEEKLY SERVICES. A VISITING SCHEDULE TO INDIVIDUAL RESIDENTS AT OTHER NURSING HOMES WAS ESTABLISHED FOR THE PURPOSE OF ENCOURAGEMENT AND SHARING THE GOOD NEWS ABOUT HEAVEN.
NEIGHBORHOOD OUTREACH:ONE OF THE GOALS OF THIS MINISTRY IS TO ASSIST LOCAL FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS IMPROVE THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE AND BUILD A SECURE FUTURE. TO THIS END, TOYS AND GAMES WERE PROVIDED FOR SUMMER ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN LIVING IN APARTMENT COMPLEXES. FREE RESOURCES WERE DISTRIBUTED AT EASTER AND CHRISTMAS FOR LOW INCOME FAMILIES. A SUPPORT GROUP CONTINUED TO ENCOURAGE INDIVIDUALS STRUGGLING WITH LIKE ISSUES SUCH AS SCHIZOPHRENIA AND FINANCIAL INSTABILITY.
