OUR MISSION IS TO ENRICH THE COMMUNITY BY PROVIDING FORUMS FOR ART EXPERIENCES & SUPPORTING THE CREATION OF PUBLIC ART. WE HAVE SALONS AND LECTURES TO DISCUSS OUT ART PROJECTS INCLUDING THE HISTORY AND HOW THE ARTIST DESIGNED AND PRODUCED THE ART USING CONCEPTS PROVIDED BY LOCAL SCHOOL CHILDREN. LOCAL SCHOOL STUDENTS SUBMITTED ART WORK 4 OF WHICH TO BE MADE INTO TILES TO BE ADDED TO OUR MOST RECENT PROJECT FRIENDS OF FREEDOM- SPANISH AMERICAN WAR- BUFFALO SOLDIERS. PLATFORM HAS WORKS OF ART ALL AROUND THE LOCAL AREA. THE FRIENDS OF FREEDOM MONUMENT WAS INSTALLED IN LAKELAND'S VETERANS PARK ALONG SIDE 4 OTHER OUR PLATFORM'S ART PEICES.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
OUR MAIN PROGRAM SERVICE THIS YEAR WAS COMPLETING THE FRIENDS OF FREEDOM MONUMENT RECOGNIZING THE BUFFALO SOLDIERS AND THEIR PARTICIPATION IN THE SPANISH AMERICA WAR. THE TILES THAT THE STUDENTS DID WERE MADE FROM ARTWORK THEY DESIGNED. THE ARTIST HAD A WORK SESSION EXPLAINING THE ENTIRE PROCESS FROM THE ORIGINAL CONCEPT FOR THE MONUMENT TO THE COMPLETION. BUFFALO SOLDIER REINACTORS ACCOMPANIED THE MONUMENT FROM PENNSYLVANIA TO FLORIDA. THE NATIONAL PRESS AND TV STATIONS WERE INVOLVED AND THERE WERE CEREMONIES WHEN THE MONUMENT GOT TO LAKELAND AND ALSO WHEN IT WAS INSTALLED ON VETERANS DAY WEEKEND. THE ENTIRE PROJECT WAS A GREAT BLEND OF HISTORY AND ART. EVERYONE WAS SO IMPRESSED WITH THIS PROJECT.
