WE SEEK TO PROMOTE COOPERATION AND UNDERSTANDING AMONG ALL PEOPLE AS WE WORK TO BUILD A SAFER COMMUNITY WITH ROOM FOR ALL.

COMMUNITY CENTER - CAMP REHOBOTH (CR)WORKS TO CREATE PROUD AND SAFE COMMUNITIES WHERE GENDER IDENTITY AND SEXUAL ORIENTATION DO NOT MATTER. THE CENTER, A FULL-SERVICE COMMUNITY CENTER, INCLUDES A LARGE MULTI-PURPOSE ROOM, GALLERY SPACE, CONFERENCE ROOMS, A LIBRARY/READING ROOM, AND THE CAMP REHOBOTH COURTYARD. AS THE "HEART OF THE COMMUNITY" THE CENTER PROVIDES TANGIBLE VALUE AS A GATHERING PLACE FOR LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, TRANSGENDER, QUESTIONING/QUEER (LGBTQ) INDIVIDUALS - AND ALL - FOR SOLACE, SUPPORT, EDUCATION, CELEBRATION, AND AS A HUB FOR A WIDE RANGE OF ACTIVITIES. IT IS SUPPORTED BY AN ENGAGED BOARD, A SMALL STAFF, AND OVER 500 VOLUNTEERS ANNUALLY WHO HELP CARRY OUT ITS CRITICAL PROGRAMS AND SERVICES. THE CENTER IS THE MEETING PLACE FOR NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS WHO SHARE OUR MISSION OF PROMOTING COMMUNITY WELL-BEING. THIS SERVICE WAS LIMITED IN 2020 DUE TO THE COVID PANDEMIC.
HEALTH AND WELLBEING - CAMP REHOBOTH (CR) OFFERS PROGRAMS THAT SUPPORT COMMUNITY WELL-BEING ON ALL LEVELS - WITH OVER 2,346 INDIVIDUALS SERVED IN 2020. AGAIN, CAMP REHOBOTH WAS FORCED TO CLOSE OUR FACILITY FOR MOST FUNCTIONS DUE TO THE PANDEMIC. WE MANAGED, HOWEVER, TO SUCCESSFULLY PIVOT MANY OF OUR SUPPORT GROUP, CLASSES, AND EVEN PERFORMANCES, TO VIRTUAL ZOOM PROGRAMS. FURTHER CAMP REHOBOTH LAUNCHED A YOUTUBE CHANNEL THAT HAD 50 SUBSCRIBERS BY THE END OF 2020. 48 VIDEOS WERE UPLOADED IN 2020 AND VIEWED A TOTAL OF 3,700 TIMES.CR'S CAMPSAFE AND HIV/AIDS SCREENING AND EDUCATION PROGRAMS, CONSIDERED AN ESSENTIAL HEALTH SERVICE, CONTINUED DESPITE THE COVID PANDEMIC. IN 2020 CR HAD 6 TESTING LOCATIONS IN SUSSEX COUNTY, REACHING NEW POPULATIONS AND UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES. MORE THAN 436 HIV TESTS AND 74 STI TESTS WERE DONE IN 2020. 138 STD TESTS WERE CONDUCTED, 30 INDIVIDUALS PARTICIPATED IN OUR SEXUAL HEALTH COUNSELING PROGRAM. CR HAS MOVED BEYOND HIV TO LOOK AT OVERALL HEALTH - MEN, WOMEN, GAY STRAIGHT, TRANSGENDER - AND OUR PROGRAMS ARE AVAILABLE TO EVERYONE. THERE WERE 26 ONGOING HEALTH AND WELLNESS SESSIONS, AND 7 NEW SESSIONS WERE ADDED. 425 FLU SHOTS WERE PROVIDED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH BEEBE HEALTHCARE. THERE WERE 26 ONGOING DISCUSSION GROUPS, AND 6 NEW GROUPS WERE ADDED; 468 INDIVIDUALS PARTICIPATED. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE DE BREAST CANCER COALITION, CR SPONSORS THE ANNUAL BROADWALK ON THE BOARDWALK, WHICH UNFORTUNATELY HAD TO BE CANCELLED. SINCE IT'S INCEPTION, OVER $77,136 WAS RAISED FOR DBCC SINCE ITS INCEPTION IN 2011.
OUTREACH, EDUCATION AND CREATIVE ARTS - CAMP REHOBOTH PROVIDES EDUCATION AND OUTREACH TO THE LARGER COMMUNITY, PROMOTING POSITIVE IMAGES OF LGBTQ PEOPLE, FUNCTIONING AS A NETWORKING AND INFORMATION RESOURCE, SUPPORTING LOCAL NONPROFITS THAT WORK TOWARD THE BETTERMENT OF THE COMMUNITY, AND FOSTERING THE ECONOMIC GROWTH OF THE AREA. IN 2019 OVER 19,000 INDIVIDUALS WERE SERVED BY CR'S OUTREACH PROGRAMS.FOR THE LAST 29 YEARS, CAMP REHOBOTH LEADERSHIP HAS PROVIDED SENSITIVITY TRAINING TO CITY AND PARK POLICE, LESSENING TENSIONS AMONG THE COMMUNITY AT LARGE. OVER 900 HAVE PARTICIPATED IN SENSITIVITY TRAINING SINCE ITS INCEPTION. IN 2020, OUR YOUTH PROGRAM THRIVE-A PROGRAM REACHING OUT TO LGBTQ+ STUDENTS IN MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOLS CONTINUED IN 5 SUSSEX AND 1 KENT COUNTY SCHOOL WAS CREATED. THE PROGRAM MOVED TO A VIRTUAL FORMAT IN LATE MARCH 2020 ULTIMATELY REACHING 331 YOUTH. THE YOUTH PROGRAM ORGANIZED A SUSSEX COUNTY GSA EVENT ON MARCH 7TH, 2020 WHICH ENGAGED 76 YOUTH.CR OUTREACH PROGRAM (CROP) PARTNERS WITH NONPROFITS AND GROUPS WHO ARE WORKING TO CREATE A MORE POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT IN REHOBOTH BEACH AND BEYOND. IN 2020 CROP PARTICIPATED IN 9 COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS THAT SERVED 6 ORGANIZATIONS INVOLVING 6,700 INDIVIDUALS. CROP IDENTIFIED FOOD INSECURITY AS A PRIORITY IN 2020 AND RETURNED TO THE FOOD BANK OF DELAWARE THREE TIMES. CROP HAD 160 VOLUNTEERS PROVIDING 301 HOURS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE. THIS EQUATES TO A VALUE OF $8,187. PROVIDED TO NONPROFIT AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS IN NEED. AN AVERAGE OF 20,000-PAGE VIEWS PER MONTH IS RECEIVED ON CR'S WEBSITE. CR PUBLISHES AND DISTRIBUTES "LETTERS FROM CAMP REHOBOTH." THIS 72 TO 120-PAGE MAGAZINE IS A VALUABLE RESOURCE FOR RESIDENTS AND PEOPLE VISITING THE AREA. CR FOSTERS THE DEVELOPMENT OF NONPROFIT GROUPS THAT SUPPORT CR'S MISSION AND HELPS THEM BY DONATING ADVERTISING SPACE IN "LETTERS FROM CAMP REHOBOTH." SUNDANCE, OUR LONGEST-RUNNING FUNDRAISER, 32 YEARS, IS A 2-DAY EVENT THAT SUPPORTERS LOOK FORWARD TO ALL YEAR LONG. THIS YEAR SUNDANCE WAS HELD AS A VIRTUAL EVENT. IN CONJUNCTION WITH SEASHORE STRIDERS, CR HELPS ORGANIZE THE ANNUAL SUNDANCE LAND AND SEA RACING FESTIVAL, WHICH UNFORTUNATELY WAS CANCELLED THIS YEAR DUE TO COVID.CR'S WOMEN'S FEST HAS GROWN EACH YEAR SINCE ITS INCEPTION 19 YEARS AGO. WHILE PLANNING FOR WOMEN'S FEST 2021 WAS UNDERWAY, WOMEN'S FEST UNFORTUNATELY WAS CANCELLED IN 2020 DUE TO COVID.THE ANNUAL CR BLOCK PARTY UNFORTUNATELY WAS CANCELLED IN 2020 BECAUSE OF A THE COVID PANDEMIC. CR PUTS ART AT THE HEART OF THE COMMUNITY BY HOSTING ART EXHIBITS IN THE GALLERY. IN 2020, 10 ART EXHIBITS WERE HELD WHICH FEATURED 182 NEW, EMERGING, AND ESTABLISHED ARTISTS. OVER 350 INDIVIDUALS ATTENDED THE EXHIBITIONS. THE 90-MEMBER CR CHORUS, WHICH PROVIDES HIGH QUALITY MUSICAL ENTERTAINMENT FOR AUDIENCES THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY, USES THE CR COMMUNITY CENTER FOR REHEARSALS. THE CHORUS PERFORMED 1 IN PERSON CONCERT WITH OVER 1,288 ATTENDEES. OTHER SCHEDULED CONCERTS WERE CANCELLED DUE TO COVID BUT THE CHORUS ADAPTED PRESENTING FIRST FRIDAY VIRTUAL CABARETS IN NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER.THE CAMP REHOBOTH CHORUS AND FRIENDS MUSIC & MEMORY PROJECT PROVIDES INDIVIDUALS WITH HEADPHONES AND IPODS LOADED WITH THEIR FAVORITE MUSIC. THIS INVOLVED FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO 7 SUSSEX COUNTY SKILLED NURSING AND ASSISTED LIVING FACILITIES. IN 2020, OUTREACH ALSO EXPANDED TO LOCAL PUBLIC LIBRARIES.EDUCATIONAL AND SOCIAL BUS TRIPS ARE ALSO PART OF OUR WORK. IN 2020 WE HAD ONE BUS TRIP TO THE SMITHSONIAN NATIONAL MUSEUM OF AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY AND CULTURE ENGAGING 42 PEOPLE AND ONE TRIP TO THE PHILADELPHIA FLOWER SHOW ENGAGING 50 PEOPLE.

THE REOPENING OF CAMP BEGAN IN THE SPRING WHEN SEVERAL IN PERSON PROGRAMS RETURNED, WHILE CONTINUING TO OFFER OTHERS VIRTUALLY. CAMP ALSO REINVENTED SEVERAL SIGNATURE EVENTS THAT ARE AN IMPORTANT PART OF THE LOCAL LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY.
