THE MISSION OF THE ORGANIZATION IS TO ASSIST ARKANSAS RETIRED TEACHERS IN KEEPING ABREAST AND INFORMED OF EVENTS, HAPPENINGS AND LEGISLATION THAT WILL EFFECT THEIR LIVES AND THEIR RETIREMENT. TO HELP RETIREES TO HAVE THE BEST RETIREMENT POSSIBLE FROM THEIR YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE EDUCATION SYSTEM AND THE STUDENTS OF ARKANSAS. THE ASSOCIATION'S QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER PROVIDES THE MEMBERS AND RETIREES CURRENT INFORMATION REGARDING ACTIVITIES AND NEWS THAT SHOULD BE INFORMATIVE TO THE MEMBERSHIP.

POSTAGE FOR THE BULK MAILING OF THE ASSOCIATION'S QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER MAILED TO RETIRED TEACHERS PLUS THE COST OF PRINTING AND THE LAYOUT GRAPHICS OF THE NEWSLETTER ADVISING RETIRED TEACHERS OF ARKANSAS OF ASSOCIATION'S ACTIVITIES, NEWS ITEMS AND ARTICLES DIRECTLY AFFECTING AND MEANINGFUL TO RETIREES.
DURING EACH FISCAL YEAR, THE ASSOCIATION HOLDS AN ANNUAL STATE CONVENTION FOR ALL MEMBERS, SELLING LUNCHEON TICKETS TO ATTENDEES AND PROVIDING A PROGRAM OF INTEREST AND IMPORTANCE TO THE ATTENDEES, PLUS THE CONDUCTING OF THE ASSOCIATION'S BUSINESS ACTIVITIES FOR THE INFORMATION OF THE MEMBERSHIP ATTENDEES. THE ASSOCIATION PRESENTS SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS AND A KEYNOTE SPEAKER WITH A TOPIC BENEFICIAL TO RETIREES AND THEIR LIVES.
COMMITTEE MEETINGS ARE HELD THROUGHOUT THE YEAR TO KEEP ALL AREAS OF THE STATE INFORMED ON ACTIVITES, PROGRAMS AND CURRENT EVENTS OF THE ASSOCIATION AND ITS MEMBERS AND RETIREES IN GENERAL. TO ASSIST IN THE DECISIONS OF THE ASSOCIATION REGARDING ITS ACTIVITIES, EVENTS AND MEMBERS. THE COST OF ATTENDING THE MEETINGS AT THE VARIOUS LOCATIONS AROUND THE STATE AND THE REFRESHMENTS AT THE MEETINGS ARE REIMBURSED OR PAID FOR BY THE ASSOCIATION.
THE ASSOCIATION AWARDED SCHOLARSHIPS TO EIGHT(8) CURRENT ARKANSAS CLASSROOM TEACHERS TO ASSIST THESE INDIVIDUALS IN THE ADVANCEMENT AND CONTINUATION OF THEIR FORMAL EDUCATION BEYOND THE ENTRY LEVEL REQUIREMENTS THAT WILL THEN BE BENEFICIAL TO THE STUDENTS IN THE TEACHER'S CLASSROOMS IN THE STATE OF ARKANSAS. SCHOLARSHIPS ARE BASED ON NEED AND REQUEST IN A FORMAL SELECTION PROCESS. THESE AWARD SCHOLARSHIPS ARE IN THE AMOUNT OF 2,000 EACH FOR TOTAL GRANT AMOUNT OF 18,000. SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS AND RECOGNITION PLAQUES TO RETIRING OFFICERS FOR THEIR VOLUNTEER SERVICE ARE MADE AT THE ANNUAL STATE CONVENTION MEETING BY THE ASSOCIATION. TO ASSIST THE VARIOUS AREAS AROUND THE STATE OF ARKANSAS IN THE INVOLVEMENT OF RETIRED TEACHERS IN ACTIVITIES AND MEETINGS, THE ASSOCIATION PROVIDES FUNDS TO EACH OF THE EIGHT(8) AREA COUNCILS THROUGHOUT THE STATE. THE ALLOCATION IS PROVIDED EQUALLY TO EACH OF THE EIGHT AREAS WITHOUT REGARD TO THE MEMBERSHIP BASE PER AREA. NO AREA COUNCIL AWARDS WERE GIVEN IN THE YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2021.
