THE OLATHE PUBLIC SCHOOLS FOUNDATION, FOUNDED IN 1997, IS A NON-PROFIT, VOLUNTEER-BASED ORGANIZATION PROVIDING GRANTS, SCHOLARSHIPS AND RECOGNITIONS FOR THE TEACHERS AND STUDENTS OF THE OLATHE SCHOOL DISTRICT. THE FOUNDATION BRINGS STUDENTS, PARENTS, ALUMNI, SMALL BUSINESSES AND CORPORATIONS TOGETHER TO CREATE OPPORTUNITIES TO SUPPORT CONTINUED EXCELLENCE IN OLATHE SCHOOLS. THE FOUNDATION WORKS TO BUILD SUPPORTIVE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN OUR SCHOOLS AND THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY THROUGH MANY COOPERATIVE EVENTS AND PROGRAMS.

THE OPSF FACILITATES THE AWARDING OF 50 NAMED SCHOLARSHIPS TO GRADUATING OLATHE SENIOR STUDENTS. THE SOURCES OF FUNDS FOR THESE SCHOLARSHIPS RUN THE GAMUT FROM ENDOWED FUNDS FROM ESTATE GIFTS, TO ANNUAL SUPPORT DONATIONS FROM ALUMNI GROUPS AND GRATEFUL FAMILIES.
WITH 29% OF STUDENTS IN OLATHE LIVING AT OR BELOW THE POVERTY LINE, THE OLATHE PUBLIC SCHOOLS FOUNDATION FOCUSES SIGNIFICANT EFFORTS ON SUPPORTING THEIR UNIQUE NEEDS. THROUGH THE FOLLOWING FUNDS, THE OSPF ENSURES THAT EVERY STUDENT HAS WHAT THEY NEED TO BE IN CLASS, READY TO LEARN: STUDENT HEALTH EMERGENCY FUND, WIMMER STUDENT CARE FUND, SCHOOL SUPPLY PROGRAM, HOMELESS OUTREACH FUND, FAMILIES IN NEED (MEALS) FUND, BACKSNACK FOOD PROGRAM (WEEKEND MEALS), MUFFIN FUND (SCHOOL BREAK MEALS); AND COLLEGE NOW (CREDIT EARNED WHILE STILL IN HIGH SCHOOL) SCHOLARSHIPS THROUGH THE A.L.L. FUND.
OLATHE STUDENTS BENEFIT WHEN THEIR TEACHERS APPLY FOR OPSF CLASSROOM GRANTS. THEIR INNOVATIVE IDEAS PAVE THE WAY FOR LEARNING EXCELLENCE. TEACHERS IDENTIFY WAYS THEY CAN HELP STUDENTS LEARN AND GROW INCLUDING DECODABLE READERS TO HELP STRUGGLING READERS, IPADS TO SUPPORT SPECIAL NEEDS STUDENTS WITH ACCESS TO MUSIC THERAPY, ENHANCING THE ELEMENTARY MUSIC CURRICULUM WITH THE ADDITION OF TUBANO DRUMS, ROBOTICS KITS TO HELP MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS MEET THE ROBOTICS CHALLENGE, TECHNOLOGY TO SUPPORT 21ST CENTURY ACADEMIES, AND SCOOTERS TO ENHANCE THE ELEMENTARY P.E. CURRICULUM.
