WYANDOTTE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL (WYEDC) ANNOUNCED 27 PROJECTS WITH A CAPITAL INVESTMENT OF 456 MILLION AND 934 NEW JOBS. THE CAPITAL INVESTMENT IS THE 8TH BEST IN COUNTY HISTORY. THE TEAM SURVEYED 146 COMPANIES AS PART OF ITS BUSINESS RETENTION PROGRAM INDICATING 21% PLAN TO EXPAND WITHIN THE NEXT 12 MONTHS. WYANDOTTE COUNTY HAS THE HIGHEST WAGES PAID IN THE STATE OF KANSAS. MEDIAN HOUSEHOLD INCOME INCREASED TO 57,771 - 61ST IN THE STATE AND UP FROM 87TH IN 2019. WYEDC CONTINUES TO FOCUS ON RAISING HOUSEHOLD INCOME AND CONNECTING RESIDENTS TO HIGH WAGE JOBS THROUGH ITS WORKFORCE SOLUTIONS EFFORTS. THESE ARE PROGRAMS TIED TO EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION, SECOND CHANCE HIRING, LANGUAGE, POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION, AND TRANSPORTATION. WYEDC CONTINUED TO SUPPORT THE EMPOWER WYCO LOAN FUND IN COLLABORATION WITH NETWORK KANSAS WITH LOANS APPROVED TO 7 BUSINESSES TOTALING 105,000. INCREASED FOCUS WAS PLACED ON DEVELOPING CAREER PATHWAYS STUDENT TOURS WITH EACH OF THE HIGH SCHOOLS WITHIN THE COUNTY. THE TOURS CONSISTED OF UP TO 25 STUDENTS ON EACH TOUR VISITING TWO COMPANIES IN THE COUNTY IN THEIR CAREER PATHWAY AND A VISIT TO THE KCK COMMUNITY COLLEGE. THESE TOURS WERE ALSO IN COLLABORATION WITH KANSAS MANUFACTURING SOLUTIONS AND WORKFORCE PARTNERSHIP. ADDITIONALLY, WYEDC PRINTED ITS FIRST MAKING IT IN THE DOTTE MAGAZINE HIGHLIGHTING A NUMBER OF THE COMPANIES AND PARTNERSHIPS SUPPORTING ECONOMIC GROWTH IN WYANDOTTE COUNTY.
