THIS YEAR WYANDOTTE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL (WYEDC) PARTNERED WITH THE MID-AMERICA REGIONAL COUNCIL ON A ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ADMINISTRATION GRANT TO SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESSES THAT WERE MOST VULNERABLE BECAUSE OF THE ECONOMIC DOWNTURN AND EXPAND THE COUNTY'S SMALL BUSINESS ECOSYSTEM. THE PROGRAM TARGETS LOCAL, MINORITY, AND WOMAN-OWNED BUSINESSES TO ENGAGE IN WEBINARS, ROUNDTABLES, AND EVENTS TO INTRODUCE SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS TO RESOURCES ON THE LOCAL, REGIONAL, AND STATE LEVEL. THE EMPOWER WYCO FUND, CREATED IN COLLABORATION WITH NETWORK KANSAS TO INCREASE FUNDING IN SOCIALLY-DISADVANTAGED POPULATION, SAW APPROVED LOANS FOR 21 BUSINESSES TOTALING 304,000. LOAN FUNDS COULD BE USED FOR EQUIPMENT, INVENTORY, REPAIRS, BUILDING PURCHASE, INFRASTRUCTURE, REFINANCING EXISTING BUILDING DEBT, AND WORKING CAPITAL. WORKFORCE SOLUTIONS GROUP WORKED IN 2022 TO FINE-TUNE THE BUSINESS ESL PROGRAM. THE PROGRAM PROVIDED ON-SITE ESL TRAINING TO IMPROVE COMMUNICATION AND SAFTEY AND UPSKILL EMPLOYEES TO THREE BUSINESSES AND 45 EMPLOYEES.
