RESIDENT PERFORMANCES. THEATRE FOR YOUNG AMERICA PROVIDED LIVE PROFESSIONAL PERFORMANCES AT THE CITY STAGE IN UNION STATION AND AT GOPPERT THEATER AT AVILA UNIVERSITY. THERE WERE A TOTAL OF 147 PERFORMANCES FOR A TOTAL AUDIENCE OF 24,600. THESE FIGURES REFLECT A 20% DECREASE IN ATTENDANCE DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND CANCELLATION OF THE LAST 3 SHOWS OF THE 2019-2020 SEASON. IN ADDITION TO PERFORMANCE TYA PROVIDED POST PERFORMANCE SEMINARS, STUDY GUIDES, ASL INTERPRETED PERFORMANCES AND 'TOUCH TOURS' OF STAGE ITEMS FOR VISUALLY IMPAIRED STUDENTS.
ARTS EDUCATION. TYA PROVIDED DRAMA CLASSES FOR 220 STUDENTS FROM PRESCHOOL THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL AT 3 LOCATIONS: UNION STATION'S CITY STAGE, WONDERSCOPE CHILDREN'S MUSEUM, AND AVILA UNIVERSITY. TYA ALSO PROVIDED A FEW OUTREACH WORKSHOPS IN AREA SCHOOLS BEFORE THE COVID PANDEMIC CONVERTED SCHOOLS TO REMOTE LEARNING STATUS. TYA CONTINUED TO OFFER DRAMA CLASSES ONLINE THROUGH THE SPRING AND SUMMER OF 2020.
TOUR PERFORMANCES: BEFORE THE AREA SCHOOLS CONVERTED TO ONLINE REMOTE LEARNING TYA GAVE A FEW TOUR PERFORMANCES IN KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI PUBLIC SCHOOLS. THESE TOUR PERFORMANCES FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AGE STUDENTS FOCUSED ON READING READINESS AND POST PERFORMANCE DISCUSSION OF THE LITERATURE ON WHICH THE PERFORMANCE WAS BASED.
