THE LOVE PIT IS A 501C3 FOSTER-BASED RESCUE ON A MISSION TO SAVE THE PIT BULL THROUGH RESCUE, REHABILITATION, TRAINING, AND ADVOCACY.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

MEDICAL: EACH DOG PLACED IN OUR RESCUE UNDERGOES A GENERAL EXAM AT ONE OF OUR VETERINARY PARTNERS. DURING THIS EXAM, ITS DETERMINED IF MORE EXTENSIVE MEDICAL CARE IS NEEDED AND A PLAN OF REHABILITATION IS PUT IN PLACE AND SCHEDULED. EVERY DOG AT THE LOVE PIT MUST BE MEDICALLY CLEARED BEFORE IT IS PLACED UP FOR ADOPTION. THIS INCLUDES GENERAL VETTING PROCEDURES SUCH AS DEWORMER, VACCINATIONS, HEARTWORM TEST,RABIES VACCINATIONS, MICROCHIP, AND SPAY/NEUTER. IT ALSO INCLUDES SEVERE MEDICAL TREATMENTS AND SURGERIES SUCH AS HEARTWORM TREATMENT, BROKEN BONE REPAIRS, SEVERE SKIN INFECTIONS, UPPER RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS, PARVOVIRUS, PNEUMONIA, PARALYSIS, CANCER, ENTROPION SURGERY, ETC. THE MEDICAL PROGRAM COMBINED WITH MEDICAL BOARDING ISTHE LARGEST EXPENSE OF OUR RESCUE.


FOSTER & ADOPTIONS:FOSTER: EACH DOG IN OUR RESCUE IS PLACED IN A FOSTER HOME WHERE THEY LEARN TO BECOME A GOOD PET FOR A FUTURE FAMILY. DURING THIS TIME, WE ALL WORK VERY HARD TO NOT ONLY ENSURE THE DOG IS MEDICALLY REHABILITATED BUT ALSO EVALUATED FOR BEHAVIOR AND SET UP WITH A CUSTOM TRAINING PLAN. THE FOSTER PARENT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR TAKING THEIR FOSTER DOG TO OUR WEEKLY TRAINING CLASSES AND MONTHLYADOPTION EVENTS UNTIL THE DOG HAS BEEN ADOPTED. ADOPTIONS: EACH DOG IN OUR RESCUE IS PLACED UP FOR ADOPTION AFTER THEY HAVE BEENCLEARED BY OUR TRAINING TEAM AND OUR MEDICAL TEAM. THIS TYPICALLY OCCURS AFTER 1 MONTH OF THE DOGS RESCUE. EVERY DOG IS SPAYED/NEUTERED, MICROCHIPPED AND FULLY VACCINATED AND HEALTHY BEFORE THEY CAN BE ADOPTED. THEY ALSO HAVE TO REACH A CERTAIN LEVEL IN OUR TRAINING PROGRAM BEFORE THEY ARE CLEARED FOR ADOPTION. LEVEL IN OUR TRAINING PROGRAM BEFORE THEY ARE CLEARED FOR ADOPTION.
