COMMON GOOD ATLANTA PROVIDES INCARCERATED PEOPLE WITH BROAD, DEMOCRATIC ACCESS TO HIGHER EDUCATION SO THEY CAN DEVELOP A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF BOTH THEMSELVES AND THE SOCIETAL FORCES AT WORK AROUND THEM.

CGA'S 2021 PROGRAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS:CLASSES RETURNED TO IN-PERSON AT 4 OF OUR SITES AND CONTINUED WITH VIRTUAL CLASSES AT OUR DOWNTOWN CLASS. STUDENTS AND PROFESSORS ALIKE ARE VERY HAPPY TO BE ABLE TO LEARN AND TEACH FACE TO FACE ONCE AGAIN. OVER THE COURSE OF 2021, 47 STUDENTS GRADUATED * METRO REENTRY FACILITY: 6 GRADUATES, 14 CURRENTLY ENROLLED * BURRUSS CORRECTIONAL TRAINING CENTER: 7 GRADUATES, 5 CURRENTLY ENROLLED * WHITWORTH WOMEN'S FACILITY: 11 GRADUATES, 17 CURRENTLY ENROLLED * PHILIPS STATE PRISON: 14 CURRENTLY ENROLLED (PHILIPS IS A 2 YEAR DEGREE PROGRAM, MORE ON GRADUATES TO COME!) * DOWNTOWN CLASS (FORMERLY INCARCERATED STUDENTS): ** "SHAKESPEARE AND THE COMMON GOOD", 13 GRADUATES OVER 2 CYCLES ** "ODYSSEY: FINDING HOME", 10 GRADUATES OVER 2 CYCLESSTAFFING ACCOMPLISHMENTS AWARDS: COMMON GOOD ATLANTA RECEIVED A HUGE STATEMENT OF SUPPORT WHEN AMERICAN FAMILY INSURANCE AND ATLANTA UNITED FC NOT ONLY DONATED $30,000 BUT ALSO PRODUCED A COMPELLING VIDEO ABOUT CGAS WORK AND IMPACT AN ANONYMOUS DONOR OFFERED A CHALLENGE GIFT, COMMITTING TO MATCH EVERY CONTRIBUTION WE RECEIVED THROUGH THE END OF AUGUST. OUR BACK IN THE CLASSROOM FUNDRAISER WAS A HUGE SUCCESS, AND WE REACHED OUR GOAL OF TURNING $25,000 INTO $50,000. THANKS TO GENEROUS DONATIONS, WE HAVE GIVEN CHROMEBOOKS TO 6 OF OUR ALUMNI. WE HAVE 6 ADDITIONAL CHROMEBOOKS REMAINING TO PROVIDE OUR JANUARY 2022 CLEMENTE STUDENTS. THIS PROVIDED FORMERLY INCARCERATED PEOPLE WITH THE MATERIALS NEEDED TO OVERCOME THE DIGITAL DIVIDE AND CONNECT WITH OUR PROGRAMMING. CGA WAS AWARDED THE GSU COLLEGE TO CAREER GRANT, WHICH PROVIDED 5 DIRECTLY IMPACTED STUDENTS SCHOLARSHIP MONEY TO CONTINUE THEIR EDUCATION. GEORGIA HUMANITIES DONATED $3,000 FOR PROGRAMMING SUPPORT TO ASSIST WITH CONTINUING EDUCATION IN THE HUMANITIES THROUGH THE CLEMENTE COURSE.EVENTS: HOSTED VARIOUS ALUMNI EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR PUBLICATIONS: IN PARTNERSHIP WITH EMORY DIGITAL SCHOLARSHIP, CGA PUBLISHED OUR VERY OWN DIGITAL JOURNAL, HOURGLASS JOURNAL. COMPILED OF PIECES FROM OUR ALUMNI, THIS JOURNAL IS A TESTAMENT TO THE POWERFUL, GENEROUS, BRILLIANT, WHOLE, AND DEEPLY KIND PEOPLE WHO HAVE SERVED TIME IN PRISON.
