THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR MEDICAL TREATMENT AND FOR PERSONAL CIRCUMSTANCES TO THE FAMILIES OF THE MEMBERS OF LOCAL 726 WHO ARE SUFFERING FROM FINANCIAL HARDSHIPS DUE TO MEDICAL BILLS, ILLNESS, DEATH AND OTHER NEEDS. THE ORGANIZATION HOSTS EVENTS TO RAISE AWARENESS AND EDUCATION OF THE DISEASES THAT AFFECT THE MEMBERS. THE TRANSIT WORKER MEMBERS FACE UNUSUALLY RISKS IN THE DAILY COURSE OF THEIR WORK. JOB RELATED HAZARDS SUCH AS VEHICLE ACCIDENTS AND SITTING POSITION WHILE DRIVING ALL DAY. MANAGING IRATE-TROUBLESOME PASSENGERS IS A RISK WHILE DRIVING. CHRONIC WORK-RELATED DISEASES ARE A GREAT RISK AFFECTING TRANSIT WORKERS AS THEIR OCCUPATION FACES THE HIGHEST RISK OF CONTRACTING 10 COMMON DISEASES. APPROXIMATELY 42% OF TRANSIT WORKERS HAVE HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE THAT LEADS TO HEART ATTACKS AND STROKE.

ANNUALLY, TUITION ASSISTANCE PAYMENTS ARE PAID TO STUDENTS WHO ARE FAMILY MEMBERS OF LOCAL 726. DONATIONS ARE MADE TO OTHER 501C (3) ORGANIZATIONS THAT HELP SUPPORT THE MITIGATION OF DISEASE AND PROMOTE SAFETY FOR TRANSIT WORKERS. A CHILDREN'S HOLIDAY PARTY, AN ADULT HOLIDAY PARTY A RETIREES PARTY AND SUMMER PICNIC IN THE PARK ARE HELD FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS FOR PURPOSES OF NETWORKING, EDUCATION AND RAISING AWARENESS. FUNDRAISING EVENTS ARE HELD TO RAISE FUNDS. SUCH EVENTS INCLUDE AN ANNUAL GOLF OUTING, DINNERS SUCH AS PASTABILITIES, NITE OF ENTERTAINMENT AND RAFFLES. MONETARY SUPPORT IS PROVIDED IN THESE SITUATIONS: MEMBER DEATH FOR FUNERAL COSTS NEEDS OF CHILDREN OF DECEASED ACTIVE MEMBERS UNTIL AGE OF 18 TUITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM 1,000 GRANTS PAID TO COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES ON BEHALF OF STUDENTS THANKSGIVING TURKEY GIVEAWAY TO FAMILIES BIRTH OR ADOPTION OF CHILD OF A MEMBER CATASTROPHIC ILLNESS THAT A) LEADS TO INABILITY TO WORK , B) FUNDS EXHAUSTED FROM SICK/VACATION PTO LEAVE PAY, C) CRITICALLY ILL CASE BY CASE NEED ANALYSIS
