IS A THEATER PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN (AGES 6 - 12, 13+) WITH CHRONIC ILLNESS AND THEIR FAMILIES TO HELP DISCOVER AND PLAY WITH THE EMOTIONAL RICHNESS AND VARIABILITY OF LIFE WITH DIABETES,; TO HELP CAREGIVERS CLOSELY EXAMINE HOW THEIR FEARS AND MISCONCEPTIONS CAN HINDER THEIR ABILITY TO HELP THEIR CHILDREN, AND CHALLENGE THE CHILD'S SELF-CONCEPT OF GROWING UP WITH DIABETES WHILE BUILDING EMOTIONAL RESILIENCE AND HEALTH IN THE WHOLE FAMILY. THE INVISIBLE ELEPHANT PROJECT: THIS THEATER PROGRAM ADDRESSES THE HIGHLY SENSITIVE AND STIGMATIZED TOPIC OF DIABETES COMPLICATIONS, IT ILLUMINATES THE COMPLEX PRESENCE OF THE THOUGHTS, FEELINGS, AND EXPERIENCES AROUND LIVING WITH TYPE 1 AND TYPE 2 DIABETES, HELPS ADULTS AND CAREGIVERS FIND WHOLENESS WHILE LIVING WITH LOSS, AND CONNECTS HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS TO THE INNER NARRATIVES OF THE PATIENT EXPERIENCE.
