AFHHO'S COVID 19 ASSISTANCE PROGRAM: PROVIDES A RANGE OF SERVICES TO AFRICAN IMMIGRANT AND REFUGEES FAMILIES IMPACTED BY THE PANDEMIC SUCH AS WAGE RELIEF, RENTAL AND ENERGY ASSISTANCE, TECHNOLOGY ASSISTANCE, WRAP AROUND SERVICES, EDUCATION WORKSHOPS: THE OHA EQUITY FUNDS PROJECT, THE OHA COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROJECT, THE OHA WRAP AROUND SERVICES PROJECT, AND THE VACCINE CLINIC (THIS YEAR 2021).


AFHHO'S COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKERS (CHW) PROGRAM :IS THE FOUNDATIONAL PROGRAM OF AFHHO SINCE OUR COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKERS HAVE STRONG RELATIONSHIPS IN THE COMMUNITIES WHERE THEY WORK. THEY ARE ABLE TO ADVOCATE IN EFFECTIVE AND SIGNIFICANT WAYS TO CARE PROVIDERS BECAUSE OF THEIR INCREASED TRUST AND CONNECTION TO COMMUNITIES MEMBERS WHO MAY NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE ENGAGING WITH MAINSTREAM HEALTH AND GOVERNMENT SERVICE SYSTEMS: THE MATERNAL HEALTH WATOTO WETU PROJECT. UNDER THAT PROGRAM IN YEAR 2021, WE: CONDUCTED OUTREACH AND EDUCATED 600 FAMILIES. REFERRED ABOUT 600 HOUSEHOLDS TO RESOURCES IN THE COMMUNITY OR THROUGH ESTABLISHED NET PROGRAMS. ASSISTED A TOTAL OF 49 BIRTHS. PROVIDED CHILD CARE CLASSES TO ABOUT 200 FAMILIES. HOSTED 70 BABY SHOWER EVENTS. ADVOCATED FOR 100 INDIVIDUALS IN HEALTHCARE AND WORK SETTINGS.


AFHHO'S ADVOCACY PROGRAM : COVERS A RANGE OF ADVOCACY WORK TO ADVANCE THE SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH OF AFRICAN IMMIGRANTS AND REFUGEES COMMUNITIES. THE CALL TO ACTIONS ARE DEVELOPED THROUGH THE WISDOM OF COMMUNITY MEMBERS, ADVOCACY COMMITTEES AND PARTNERS ORGANIZATIONS WHO CENTER BLACK, INDIGENOUS, AND COMMUNITIES OF COLOR VOICES: THE OREGON HEALTH EQUITY PROJECT, THE TRIMET PROJECT, THE CARE OREGON FLU CAMPAIGN PROJECT (THIS YEAR 2021). UNDER THE ADVOCACY PROGRAM, WE: CREATED AND PROVIDED SPACE FOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO UPLIFT COMMUNITY WISDOM BY SHARING STORIES AND STRATEGIES. CAPTURED VIA CREATIVE VIDEO CONTENT THE PRE PANDEMIC AND ONGOING PANDEMIC ISSUES THAT AFRICAN IMMIGRANTS AND REFUGEES COMMUNITY MEMBERS EXPERIENCED. PARTICIPATED WITH OTHER CBOS AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS IN AROUND 60 SESSIONS TO DEEPEN RACIAL EQUITY ANALYSIS AND CENTER COMMUNITY IN HEALTH EQUITY POLICY AND PLANNING. DEVELOPED TOOLS TO DISRUPT OPPRESSIVE SYSTEMS AND REMOVE BARRIERS THAT MAKE FOOD, PLACE AND ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES INACCESSIBLE TO AFRICAN IMMIGRANT AND REFUGEES COMMUNITIES' MEMBERS
