WE ARE A MENTAL HEALTH DROP-IN CENTER FOR ADULTS 18 YEARS OF AGE AND OLDER, WITH SERIOUS MENTAL ILLNESS, THAT HAVE A GENUINE NEED OF RELIEF FROM ISOLATION AND AN OPPORTUNITY TO SOCIALIZE WITH THEIR PEERS. WE PROVIDE A COMFORTABLE, STRESS-FREE ENVIRONMENT WITH ACTIVITIES AND A WARM MEAL AT NO COST TO THE MEMBERS. THE MISSION OF THE NORTHERN HOPE CENTER (NHC) IS TO PROVIDE ADULTS WITH SERIOUS MENTAL ILLNESS RELIEF FROM ISOLATION AND STIGMA. THE CENTER PROVIDES A MEMBER-DRIVEN, MEMBER-RUN, COMFORTABLE AND SAFE PLACE. NHC PROMOTES EMPOWERMENT BY PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES FREE FROM THE STRESS, GUILT, SHAME, AND DEMANDS OF SOCIETY.

MEMBER SUPPORT, QUALITY OF LIFE IMPROVEMENT & FINANCE ASSISTANCE, ASSISTS ITS MEMBERS WITH GROCERIES, HOUSING EXPENSES, PERSON HYGIENE ITEMS, MEDICAL BILLS, PERSONAL CARE, UTILITIES, TRANSPORTATION, AND OTHER VARIOUS LIFE NECESSITIES. TAXI SERVICES, RENT, LAUNDRY TOKENS, GIFT CARDS FOR GROCERY SHOPPING OR GAS & SPECIFIC PERSONAL ITEMS NEEDED TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE OR CURRENT SITUATION OF EACH MEMBER.
NORTHERN HOPE CENTER IS OPEN TO MEMBERS MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY FROM THE HOURS OF 10 AM - 4 PM PROVIDING FOOD, INTERNET, CRAFTS, TELEVISION, AND SOCIAL INTERACTION. WHILE VISITING THE CENTER MEMBERS CAN WATCH TELEVISION PROGRAMS ON THE MAIN LOBBY TELEVISION, THEY CAN USE ONE OF THE PERSONAL COMPUTERS THE CENTER HAS AVAILABLE, CRAFT PROJECTS ARE OCCASIONALLY OFFERED BY THE VOLUNTEERS OR THE CENTER MEMBERS TO TEACH ANYONE WHO WANTS TO LEARN A NEW ART SKILL. TWO MEALS (BREAKFAST AND LUNCH) ARE PROVIDED DAILY FOR MEMBERS, THEY CAN EITHER EAT AT THE CENTER OR TAKE A MEAL IN A CONTAINER WITH THEM. FOOD IS PURCHASED FROM OUR LOCAL GROCERY STORES AND PREPARED AT THE CENTER, PREPARED FOOD IS PURCHASED FROM THE FAIRBANKS SENIOR CENTER & FOOD CAN ALSO BE DONATED BY THE MEMBERS OR THE LOCAL FOOD BANK. FOOD DONATED BY THE LOCAL FOOD BANK CAN EITHER BE PREPARED AT THE CENTER OR GIVEN TO MEMBERS TO TAKE HOME.
A VAN PURCHASED BY THE CENTER TO TRANSPORT MEMBERS. NORTHERN HOPE CENTER PURCHASED A VAN TO TRANSPORT MEMBERS TO THE CENTER AND BACK HOME. THE VAN IS ALSO USED TO ASSIST MEMBERS DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO TRANSPORTATION AND NEE TO BE TRANSPORTED TO DOCTOR'S APPOINTMENTS, THE GROCERY STORE, SPECIAL EVENTS THAT ARE NOT HELD AT THE CENTER. ALASKA TEMPERATURES CAN GET DOWN TO -60 BELOW ZERO AND NORTHERN HOPE CENTER PROVIDES TRANSPORTATION SO THAT IT'S MEMBER DON'T HAVE TO BE EXPOSED TO THE HARSH WINTER WEATHER DURING IT'S NORMAL HOURS OF OPERATION.
