Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3

MUSICAMBIA BRINGS MUSIC LEARNING AND ENSEMBLE PERFORMANCE TO PRISONS THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES. THROUGH WORKING CLOSELY WITH INCARCERATED INDIVIDUALS ON PERFORMANCE, MUSIC THEORY, EAR TRAINING, AND COMPOSITION, OUR PROFESSIONAL MUSICIANS BUILD ARTISTIC COMMUNITIES THAT NURTURE THE HUMANITY OF ALL INVOLVED.MUSICAMBIA AT SING SING CURRENTLY SERVES 32 INMATES WHO WERE ADMITTED TO THE PROGRAM BASED ON A RECORD OF GOOD BEHAVIOR. EVERY OTHER WEEKEND BETWEEN SEPTEMBER AND JUNE, OUR DEDICATED FACULTY OF WORLD-CLASS ARTISTS OFFER MEN INCARCERATED AT SING SING A DIVERSE SYLLABUS THAT FOCUSES ON INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC INSTRUCTION, MUSIC THEORY, COMPOSITION AND ENSEMBLE PERFORMANCE SKILLS. STUDENTS DEMONSTRATE A WIDE VARIETY OF MUSICAL SKILLS. SOME HAVE SPENT YEARS AS MUSICAMBIA STUDENTS, SOME ARE PICKING UP AN INSTRUMENT THEY LEARNED IN CHILDHOOD, AND OTHERS ARE DISCOVERING MUSIC FOR THE FIRST TIME. AS GOOD CONCERTS ARE A COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY, OUR MORE EXPERIENCED STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO MENTOR THEIR LESS EXPERIENCED COLLEAGUES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR TO STRENGTHEN THE ENSEMBLE AND BUILD TEAMWORK SKILLS. IN ADDITION TO OUR REGULAR WORKSHOPS, WE ALSO CURRENTLY ORGANIZE SIX CONCERTS FEATURING MUSICAMBIA STUDENTS PERFORMING THEIR OWN ORIGINAL WORKS EACH YEAR, WITH AUDIENCES AS LARGE AS 300 PEOPLE, INCLUDING OTHER INCARCERATED PEOPLE & CORRECTIONS OFFICERS.IN ADDITION TO OUR FLAGSHIP PROGRAM, WE HAVE ADDITIONAL PROGRAMS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY. THIS SEASON OUR PROGRAM REACHED OVER 5,000 INCARCERATED MEN AND WOMEN LOCATED AT SING SING CORRECTIONAL FACILITY IN OSSINING, NEW YORK, THE NEW YORK CITY DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS, ALLENDALE CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION IN FAIRFAX, SOUTH CAROLINA, LANSING CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION IN KANSAS, AND BEDFORD HILLS CORRECTIONAL FACILITY FOR WOMEN IN BEDFORD HILLS, NEW YORK.THE MUSICAL WORK WE DO IN PRISONS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT BUT IT IS ONLY THE BEGINNING. A JOURNEY WITH MUSIC IS LIFELONG AND WE ARE FINDING NEW WAYS TO HELP OUR ALUMNI EXPAND THIS JOURNEY AFTER THEIR REENTRY INTO SOCIETY. ONE OF THE WAYS WE CONTINUE TO DEVELOP THIS IDEA WAS THROUGH OUR FIRST EVER HOLIDAY ALUMNI CONCERT WHICH TOOK PLACE ON DECEMBER 16TH, 2017 IN THE RESNICK EDUCATION WING OF CARNEGIE HALL. THIS CONCERT NOT ONLY FEATURED THE STAFF AND ALUMNI OF OUR SING SING PROGRAM BUT WAS FULLY PRODUCED BY JASON NARADZAY, A VIOLINIST AND ALUMNI OF THAT VERY PROGRAM. WE ALSO OFFER SEVERAL PAID OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALUMNI TO PERFORM AT PUBLIC CONCERTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.REACHED OVER 5,000 INCARCERATED MEN AND WOMEN LOCATED AT SING SING CORRECTIONAL FACILITY IN OSSINING, NEW YORK, THE NEW YORK CITY DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS, ALLENDALE CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION IN FAIRFAX, SOUTH CAROLINA, LANSING CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION IN KANSAS, AND BEDFORD HILLS CORRECTIONAL FACILITY FOR WOMEN IN BEDFORD HILLS, NEW YORK.THE MUSICAL WORK WE DO IN PRISONS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT BUT IT IS ONLY THE BEGINNING.
