SHAI FUND ASSISTED VULNERABLE PERSONS IN AFGHANISTAN WHEN TALIBAN TOOK OVER IN AUGUST 2021. AT RISK PERSONS SUCH AS JUDGES AND LAWYERS, WOMEN AT RISK, RELIGIOUS MINORITIES AND OTHERS AT RISK WITH ASSISTING IN SAFE- HOUSES, FOOD, MEDICINES AND TRANSPORTATION TO SAFE HAVENS. SHAI FUND ASSISTED THOSE HIGH RISK INDIVIDUALS WHOSE LIVES WOULD BE IN MORTAL DANGER SHOUDL THEY REMAIN IN A TALIBAN CONTROLLED AFGHANISTAN. VULNERABLE INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES INCLUDED CHRISTIANS, WOMEN'S RIGHTS ACTIVISTS, US GOVERNMENT AFFILIATES, AND EVEN US CITIZENS LEFT BEHIND. SHAI FUND AND OTHER PARTNERS WERE ABLE TO RESCUE OVER 9,000 HIGH RISK INDIVIDUALS FROM ALMOST CERTAIN DEATH AT THE HANDS OF THE TALIBAN.
SHAI FUND'S PROJECT RESTORES AND RESTARTS BUSINESSES AS A MEANS OF TRANSFORMING THE ECONOMIC SITUATION IN DEVASTATED TOWNS AND VILLAGES IN THE NINEVEH PLAINS OF IRAQ WHILE COMBATING POVERTY. THIS PROJECT GIVES RETURNING MINORITIES, WHO OFTEN ARE EXCLUDED FROM CHANCES FOR LONG TERM PEACE THROUGH ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, THE OPPORTUNITY TO WORK AND EARN A LIVING, WHICH IS ONE OF THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAYS FOR THEM TO REBUILD THEIR LIVES WITH DIGNITY AND PURPOSE. IN LEBANON, DUE TO THE ONGOING FINANCIAL CRISIS, APPROXIMATELY 1,040 FAMILIES HAVE BEEN SUPPORTED WITH FOOD AND MEDICINES. THE TARGET GROUP WERE UNEMPLOYED, NEEDY, FEMALE HEADED AND/OR WIDOWED WOMEN. A CHILDREN'S OUTREACH TO SUPPORT RELIGIOUS MINORITIES OVER CHRISTMAS IN THE SCHOOLS WITH A CHRISTMAS PROGRAM AND GIFTS TO POOR FAMILIES AFFECTED BY COVID-19 AND BEIRUT BLAST SUPPORTED CHILDREN IN BEIRUT.
IN MOZAMBIQUE, DUE TO THE SERIOUS SITUATION EXPERIENCED BECAUSE OF THE ATTACKS CARRIED OUT BY TERRORISTS IN THE NORTHERN AREA OF CABO DELGADO PROVINCE, A CONTAINER WITH 4,378 BOXES OF HYGIENE PRODUCTS WERE RECEIVED FOR DISTRIBUTION IN MONTEPUEZ, CABO DELGADO OF WHICH ALL THE BOXED ITEMS WERE PACKED INTO KITS AND HAVE BEEN DISTRIBUTED TO DISPLACEMENT CENTERS. THESE KITS BENEFITED 8,270 FAMILIES WHO WERE PREDOMINANTLY WOMEN REPRESENTING 41,350 BENEFICIARIES FROM INTERNALLY DISPLACED FAMILIES.
