LAST CALL FOUNDATION PROVIDED FUNDING FOR A NUMBER OF INITIATIVES TO RAISE COMMUNITY AWARENESS REGARDING OCCUPATIONAL HAZARDS WITHIN FIRE SERVICES DUE TO EXPOSURE TO CARCINOGENS. LAST CALL FOUNDATION CONTINUED FUNDING FIREFIGHTER CANCER PREVENTION EDUCATION PROGRAMS TO HELP PROTECT THEMSELVES AND THEIR FAMILIES FROM THE DEVASTATING EFFECT OF A CANCER DIAGNOSIS. THE FOUNDATION ALSO PROVIDED FUNDING TO SUPPORT EXPEDITED DEVELOPMENT AND EDITING OF ETHEREAL FILMS DOCUMENTARY "BURNED: PROTECTING THE PROTECTORS". THIS SHORT FILM SERVES TO INFORM AND EDUCATE FIREFIGHTERS ABOUT THE PRESENCE OF TOXIC PFAS CHEMICALS WITHIN FIREFIGHTER'S TURNOUT GEAR OR PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE); AS WELL AS PRESENTATION OF THE FILM AND OUTREACH EFFORTS FOR DIRECT ENGAGEMENT OF THE FIRE SERVICE.THE FILM DEBUTED IN CALIFORNIA AT A FIREFIGHTER CONVENTION IN FRONT OF 3,000 FIREFIGHTERS AND HAS NOW BEEN USED IN EDUCATIONAL PRESENTATIONS INTERNATIONALLY. THE GOAL IS TO ASSIST FIREFIGHTERS WITH INFORMATION, PROVIDE EDUCATION AND HELP THEM ADVOCATE FOR LEGISLATION WHICH WILL ELIMINATE USE OF THESE CHEMICALS IN PPE.
LAST CALL FOUNDATION PROVIDED FUNDING FOR VARIOUS INITIATIVES TO PROMOTE THE SAFETY AND WELL-BEING OF FIREFIGHTERS IN MASSACHUSETTS AND BEYOND. INITIATIVES INCLUDED: - FUNDING TO CONCORD AND MILFORD FIRE DEPARTMENTS FOR PURCHASE AND INSTALLATION OF SPECIALIZED HEAVY-DUTY WASHERS/EXTRACTORS. THESE UNITS ARE SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR DEEP-CLEANING AND GROSS DECONTAMINATION OF PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) USED BY FIREFIGHTERS.- FUNDING TO FALL RIVER FIRE DEPARTMENT AND BONNEVILLE COUNTY FIRE DISTRICT IN AMMON, IDAHO, FOR PURCHASE OF DEFENDER BRIEFS/UNDERGARMENT SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED TO PROTECT FIREFIGHTERS BY BLOCKING CANCER-CAUSING AGENTS FROM REACHING THE SKIN. FIREFIGHTERS HAVE A 200X GREATER CHANCE THAN THE PUBLIC OF BEING DIAGNOSED FOR TESTICULAR CANCER AND A 3X GREATER CHANCE OF DYING FROM THIS DIAGNOSIS. THESE 99.9% PARTICULATE BLOCKING BRIEFS WILL PROVIDE A BARRIER THAT WILL GREATLY REDUCE EXPOSURE AND ABSORPTION OF TOXIC CHEMICALS.- COLONA COMMUNITY FIRE DEPARTMENT, COLONA, ILLINOIS, FOR SCBA FITTING MACHINES AND COOLING VESTS FOR FIREFIGHTERS
LAST CALL FOUNDATION PROVIDED FUNDING FOR PURCHASE AND INSTALLATION OF STEAM UNITS IN THE FIRE HOUSES IN THE CITY OF BOSTON. UPON COMPLETION, THE STEAM UNITS WILL SUPPORT THE DEPARTMENT'S CANCER PREVENTION EFFORTS AS PART OF THE POST-FIRE DECONTAMINATION PROCESS. THESE UNITS WILL ASSIST FIREFIGHTERS WITH DETOXIFYING THEIR BODIES AND HELP PREVENT CANCER DIAGNOSIS.
LAST CALL FOUNDATION PROVIDED FUNDING FOR THE PURCHASE OF NEW MORE THERMALLY RESISTANT FIRE HOSES TO BOSTON AND FALL RIVER FIRE DEPARTMENTS. THE WARRIOR HOSE BY SNAP TITE CAN WITHSTAND HIGH HEAT CONDITIONS IN BOTH CONDUCTIVE AND RADIANT HEAT LOAD TESTING. THIS HEAT RESISTANT FIRE ATTACK HOSE WILL PROTECT FIREFIGHTERS BY REDUCING CATASTROPHIC HOSE FAILURE. THIS HOSE WAS PUT INTO SERVICE, IN BOSTON AND FALL RIVER, IMMEDIATELY ON ALL FRONT-LINE FIRE ENGINES.
