THE MISSION OF THE LAST CALL FOUNDATION IS TO PROVIDE FUNDING, EDUCATION AND RESEARCH TO ADVANCE THE SAFETY NEEDS OF THE BOSTON FIREFIGHTING COMMUNITY AND BEYOND.

LAST CALL FOUNDATION FUNDED STUDIES AT MAJOR RESEARCH CENTERS TO INVESTIGATE PFAS IN FIREFIGHTER PROTECTIVE GEAR AND DERMAL ABSORPTION OF PFAS. THE FINDINGS WERE PUBLISHED AND WILL BE USED TO SECURE GRANTS FROM ADDITIONAL SOURCES TO SUPPORT FURTHER RESEARCH.LAST CALL FOUNDATION ALSO AWARDED A GRANT TO A MAJOR MEDICAL RESEARCH INSTITUTION TO FUND MULTI-YEAR RESEARCH ON PTSD IN FIREFIGHTERS. THIS WORK WILL GENERATE CRITICAL DATA FOR SUBSEQUENT STUDIES ON SUSCEPTIBILITY TO PTSD AND TREATMENTS TO REDUCE MENTAL HEALTH BURDENS AMONG FIREFIGHTERS.
LAST CALL FOUNDATION FUNDED THE PURCHASE AND INSTALLATION OF EQUIPMENT FOR THE NEW YORK CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT TO CLEAN SELF-CONTAINED BREATHING APPARATUS (SCBA), HELMETS, BOOTS, AND GLOVES. IT CLEANS TIGHT, HARD-TO-REACH LAYERS FOR WHICH ORDINARY WASHERS IN FIRE HOUSES ARE INADEQUATE. THIS IS CRITICAL FOR ELIMINATING EXPOSURE TO CARCINOGENIC PARTICULATES AND TOXINS ON THE FIRE GROUND THAT LINGER ON THE GEAR AND CAN PERMEATE WITHIN FIRE HOUSES.
LAST CALL FOUNDATION PROVIDED FUNDING FOR CONTINUED RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT AND TESTING FOR A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT FIRE HOSE EQUIPMENT. THE EFFORT HAS MOBILIZED A COLLABORATIVE TEAM WITH EXTENSIVE EXPERTISE IN INDUSTRY RESEARCH, MATERIALS TESTING AND MANUFACTURING FOR THIS IMPORTANT INITIATIVE. FURTHER DEVELOPMENT AND TESTING IS UNDERWAY.LAST CALL FOUNDATION ALSO CONTINUED FUNDING FIREFIGHTER CANCER PREVENTION EDUCATION PROGRAMS TO HELP PROTECT THEMSELVES AND THEIR FAMILIES FROM THE DEVASTATING EFFECT OF A CANCER DIAGNOSIS.
