THE ARC OF MISSISSIPPI WAS FOUNDED TO INCLUDE ALL CHILDREN AND ADULTS WITH COGNITIVE, INTELLECTUAAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES IN EVERY COMMUNITY. WE FOCUS ON ABILITIES, RESPECT, CHOICE FOR ALL AND ENCOURAGE ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP AND INCLUSION IN EVERY COMMUNITY.

THE ORGANIZATION HOSTED A 4 WEEK SUMMER DAY CAMP PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES CALLED "CAMP BOLD". INDIVIDUAL WEEKS ARE FOCUSED ON CAMPERS OF A PARTICULAR AGE GROUP. CAMPERS ARE PAIRED WITH A COUNSELOR SO THEY ARE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN A TRADITIONAL CAMP ENVIRONMENT AS A TEAM. CAMP VOLUNTEERS AND COUNSELORS INCLUDE HIGHLY QUALIFIED SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS, ASSISTANTS, AND BEHAVIOR SPECIALISTS, AS WELL AS,MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT COUNSELORS. ACTIVITIES INCLUDE ART, MUSIC, INFLATABLES, WATER ACTIVITES, RECREATION AND CUP CAKE DECORATING.
THE JOB READINESS PROGRAM TEACHES EMPLOYABLE-AGED INDIVIDUALS WITH INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES ESSENTIAL SKILLS IN A WORK ENVIRONMENT. WEEKLY CLASSES, WORKSHOPS AND PRACTICE WORK EXPERIENCES DEVELOP SKILLS FOR SUCCESS. THE ARC NWMS PARTNERS WITH LOCAL BUSINESSES TO EMPLOY OUR PARTICIPANTS AND ALLOW THEM TO FURTHER DEVELOP THESE SKILLS.
OTHER MEMBERSHIP PROGRAMS, SUCH AS ART TO ACHIEVE, LITTLE HOUSE ART PROJECT, SIBLING WORKSHOPS,DINNER CLUBS/GAME NIGHTS AND FITNESS ACTIVITIES ARE HOSTED ON A MONTHLY BASIS FOR THE DISABLED AND THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS.
