CTS MISSION IS TO SERVE AS AN ANCHOR FOR COMMUNITY RENEWAL AND TO SUPPORT ENDEAVORS THAT BREAK INTERGENERATIONAL POVERTY, PRIMARILY IN THE TIOGA NEIGHBORHOOD. WE FULFILL THIS MISSION BY DEVELOPING INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS THAT STRENGTHEN AND SUSTAIN TIOGA IN ALL ITS COMMUNITY MANIFESTATIONS. THROUGH PARTNERSHIP, ENERGY AND A COLLECTIVE VISION, CALLED TO SERVE CDC IS PREPARED TO WORK AND ENGAGE WITH ALL GROUPS AND INDIVIDUALS WHO SHARE OUR MISSION AND COMMON VISION FOR TIOGA AND THE PHILADELPHIA REGION.LIST OF ACTIVITIES[A] "READ BY 4TH" IS A PHILADELPHIA CITYWIDE EFFORT AIMED AT BOOSTING THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS ENTERING 4TH GRADE, READING AT GRADE LEVEL BY 2020. A SUBSET OF CITYWIDE "READ BY 4TH" CAMPAIGN, CTS' HAS PARTNERED WITH THE AARP EXPERIENCE CORPS TO BOOST THE READING SKILLS OF KENDERTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. AARP FOUNDATION EXPERIENCE CORPS IS AN INTERGENERATIONAL VOLUNTEER-BASED TUTORING PROGRAM THAT IS PROVEN TO HELP CHILDREN WHO ARENT READING AT GRADE LEVEL BECOME GREAT READERS BY THE END OF THIRD GRADE. CTS IS A SPONSOR OF THE PROGRAM AT KENDERTON [B] STEM IS THE ACRONYM OF SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING AND MATHEMATICS - A SPACE UNDERREPRESENTED BY WOMEN AND MINORITIES. CTS IS THE SPONSOR FOR KENDERTONS PENNSYLVANIA MESA (MATH, ENGINEERING, SCIENCE, AND ACHIEVEMENT) TEAM. PENNSYLVANIA MESA IS PRE-COLLEGE ACADEMIC PROGRAM HOSTED BY TEMPLE UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING THAT EQUIPS UNDERREPRESENTED STUDENTS WITH SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING AND MATH (STEM). [C] BETHUNE BAND: BETHUNE BAND IS A PROGRAM THAT CELEBRATES BETHUNE STUDENTS FOR DEMONSTRATING POSITIVE BEHAVIOR, PUTTING FORTH EFFORT AND TRYING TO BETTER THEMSELVES BOTH ACADEMICALLY AND SOCIALLY. AS A PART OF OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH BETHUNE, CTS PROVIDES A CATERED LUNCH ON A QUARTERLY BASIS TO THE STUDENTS CHOSEN TO RECEIVE A BETHUNE BAND. [D] RETURNING CITIZENS WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT THROUGH A CONTRACT WITH THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA COMMERCE DEPARTMENT CTS EMPLOYS RETURNING CITIZENS TO ASSIST ITS EFFORTS IN SPURRING ECONOMIC GROWTH ALONG THE BROAD, GERMANTOWN AND ERIE NEIGHBORHOOD COMMERCIAL CORRIDOR.
