KEVIN'S SONG IS A CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO GENERATING PUBLIC AWARENESS ABOUT THE CAUSES OF SUICIDE, ITS PREVALENCE IN OUR SOCIETY AND POSSIBLE PREVENTIVE MEASURES. AS AN ORGANIZATION, WE WANT TO CREATE A WORKING COMMUNITY OF PROFESSIONALS AND ADVOCATES THAT HAS BECOME AN IMPORTANT RESOURCE IN THE METROPOLITAN DETROIT AREA AS WELL AS THE STATE OF MICHIGAN FOR OFFERING KNOWLEDGE, HOPE AND HEALING TO INDIVIDUALS, FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES TOUCHED BY SUICIDE.

CONFERENCE: THE 2022 CONFERENCE, HELD VIRTUALLY, JANUARY 27-29, WAS VERY SUCCESSFUL. IT WAS PRODUCED ONCE AGAIN IN PARTNERSHIP WITH DETROIT PUBLIC TELEVISION. OVER 400 ATTENDEES ATTENDED VIRTUALLY FROM ACROSS MICHIGAN AND FROM OTHER STATES AS WELL. THE PROGRAM FOR THE CONFERENCE IS ATTACHED.THE CONFERENCE PLANNING COMMITTEE AND THE SCHOOL SUMMIT COMMITTEE MET TO PLAN THE 2022 CONFERENCE ON SUICIDE: EQUITY AND EQUALITY IN SUICIDE PREVENTION PRIOR TO THE CONFERENCE IN JANUARY 2022, AND THEN TO BEGIN PLANNING FOR THE 2023 CONFERENCE ON SUICIDE: BUILDING ROADS TO A BETTER TOMORROW. EACH YEAR THE SCHOOL SUMMIT TAKES PLACE ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE CONFERENCE. IT DRAWS TEACHERS, SCHOOL COUNSELORS, SOCIAL WORKERS, PSYCHOLOGISTS AND ADMINISTRATORS FROM AROUND THE STATE OF MICHIGAN. THE SECOND DAY OF THE CONFERENCE IS PRIMARILY FOCUSED ON VALUABLE INFORMATION ABOUT SUICIDE FOR MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS, AND THE THIRD DAY IS SURVIVOR DAY, A DAY THAT FOCUSES ON THOSE WHO HAVE LOST A LOVED ONE TO SUICIDE.


COMMUNITY OUTREACH: THE LOSS SURVIVOR SUPPORT GROUP CONTINUED TO MEET TWICE A MONTH THROUGHOUT THIS TIME PERIOD. THE MEETINGS WERE HELD VIRTUALLY ON THE FIRST WEDNESDAY AND THIRD THURSDAY OF EACH MONTH. AN ADDITIONAL FACILITATOR (GREG BOUDREAU) WAS TRAINED AND NOW CO-FACILITATES THE MEETINGS WITH AMANDA STEIN. THE NUMBER OF ATTENDEES VARIES FROM 5 10 FOR EACH SESSION. EACH MONTH KEVINS SONG PRODUCES A NEWSLETTER THAT IS SENT OUT IN AN E-BLAST THAT REACHES CLOSE TO 3000 PEOPLE. IT IS AN EXCELLENT TOOL FOR KEEPING PEOPLE ABREAST OF THE ACTIVITIES THAT KEVINS SONG IS ENGAGED IN, FOR PROVIDING NEWS ABOUT DEVELOPMENTS IN SUICIDE PREVENTION, FOCUSING ON OUR BOARD MEMBERS, ADVISORS, VOLUNTEERS, ETC., AS WELL AS HIGHLIGHTING EACH MONTH A LOVED ONE LOST TO SUICIDE. THE NEWSLETTER ALSO FEATURES A BOOK RELATED TO IMPORTANT TOPICS SUCH AS DEALING WITH THE DEATH OF A LOVED ONE TO SUICIDE. KEVINS SONG MAINTAINS A SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE WITH FREQUENT POSTS ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH AND SUICIDE PREVENTION ON FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM, TWITTER AND LINKEDIN REACHING THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE MONTHLY.IN MAY OF 2022, THREE NONPROFITS, CARE OF SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN, BEAUMONT AND DETROIT WAYNE INTEGRATED HEALTH NETWORK, JOINED FORCES TO SPONSOR A WALK AT GROSSE POINTE NORTH HIGH SCHOOL, AND RAISING MONEY FOR KEVINS SONG. THE WALK INVOLVED HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AS WELL AS PARENTS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS WHO JOINED TOGETHER TO FOCUS ON GOOD MENTAL HEALTH AND SUICIDE PREVENTION. IT WAS ENTITLED WALKING TO SAVE LIVES. IT GAVE KEVINS SONG AN OPPORTUNITY TO SHOWCASE ITS MISSION IN THE COMMUNITY.
