JACKSON YACHT CLUB FOUNDATION OPERATES AS COMMUNITY SAILING ON THE REZ TO PROMOTE SAILING. IN PURSUIT OF THE FOUNDATION'S MISSION, THEY ACCOMPLISHED THE FOLLOWING SERVICES:IN JUNE 2021, THE FOUNDATION HOSTED A US SAILING "FIRST SAIL" DAY. THE "FIRST SAIL" DAY WAS DESIGNED TO INTRODUCE SAILING TO PEOPLE IN CENTRAL MISSISSIPPI WHO HAVE NEVER SAILED. THERE WAS NO CHARGE TO THOSE WHO REGISTER FOR THE SAILING EXPERIENCE. THE FOUNDATION COORDINATED THE EVENTS AND FURNISHED LIFE JACKETS, A SAFETY BOAT, FOOD AND WATER DURING THE SAIL.- THE FOUNDATION CURRENTLY SUPPORTS THREE HIGH SCHOOL SAILBOAT SAILING TEAMS INCLUDING: JACKSON PREP; ST. ANDREWS; AND ST. JOSEPH WHICH STARTED IN THE SPRING OF 2021. TEAMS ARE OPEN TO 7-12 GRADERS. TEAMS RANGED FROM 12-22 SAILORS WHO PARTICIPATED IN FALL AND SPRING SESSIONS. THE FOUNDATION ANTICIPATES A FOURTH HIGH SCHOOL (MADISON CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL) SAILING TEAM TO PARICIPATE IN THE SPRING OF 2021. SIX MISSISSIPPI AND ALABAMA HIGH SHOOL SAILING TEAMS PARTICIPATED IN THE HOSPITALITY REGATTA OCT 23-24, 2021, HOSTED BY THE JYC FOUNDATION. PARTICIPITATING TEAMS INCLUDED: JACKSON PREP; ST. ANDREW'S EPISCOPAL; ST. JOSEPH; ST. MICHAEL'S CATHOLIC SCHOOL OF FAIRHOPE; FAIRHOPE HIGH SCHOOL; AND STANISLAUS SCHOOL OF BAY ST. LOUIS. THE JYC FOUNDATION, AS THE HOST, SUPPLIED THE BOATS FOR THE EVENT.- A SIGNIFICANT ACCOMPLISHMENT WAS THE COMPLETION AND SIGNIFICANT USE OF THE JOHN W. MCGOWAN COMMUNITY SAILING CENTER AND DOCKS, WHICH SUPPORTS COMMUNITY AND HIGH SCHOOL SAILING.- SUPPORT FOR THE JYC SAILING CAMP WHICH TEACHES YOUNG PEOPLE TO SAIL-THE FOUNDATION PAID THE REQUIRED TUITION FOR NON-JYC MEMBER'S CHILDREN WHO CANNOT AFFORD TO ATTEND.- A GRANT TO THE JYC PUBLIC SWIMMING PROGRAM. THE ABILITY TO SWIM IS REQUIRED BEFORE SOMEONE IS ALLOWED TO SAIL. THEREFORE, THE FOUNDATION PROVIDED LIMITED SUPPORT FOR THIS EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM OPEN TO THE PUBLIC FOR THE SAFETY OF YOUNG PEOPLE SAILING.- THE FOUNDATION MAINTAINS THE SAILBOATS USED FOR TRAINING YOUTH. THESE INCLUDE VIPER, CLUB 420, SUNFISH AND OPTIMIST DINGHY SAILBOATS.- A WEBSITE (WWW.REZCOMMUNITYSAILING.ORG) IS MAINTAINED FOR PROMOTION AND INFORMATION ON THE FOUNDATION AND SAILING.
