FUND TEXAS CHOICE PROVIDES TRANSPORTATION AND ACCOMMODATIONS FOR LOW-INCOME INDIVIDUALS NEEDING ASSISTANCE WITH TRAVEL FUNDING TO AN ABORTION CLINIC. GRANTS ARE MADE IN THE FORM OF BUS OR PLANE TICKETS, MILEAGE REIMBURSEMENT AND HOTEL VOUCHERS.

OUR ORGANIZATION COVERED THE TRAVEL COSTS, FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE NO OTHER MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION, TO ENABLE THEM TO GO TO THE NEAREST ABORTION CLINIC TO RECEIVE MEDICAL SERVICES. THIS IS REQUIRED DUE TO LEGISLATION AT THE STATE LEVEL WHICH SEVERELY LIMITS THE NUMBER OF FACILITIES WHERE ABORTIONS MAY BE PERFORMED IN TEXAS; THE GREAT DISTANCES INVOLVED IN ORDER TO RECEIVE SERVICES; AND THE LACK OF NECESSARY FINANCIAL RESOURCES AVAILABLE TO THESE INDIVIDUALS WHICH ARE NECESSARY IN ORDER TO UNDERTAKE THE JOURNEY. FOR THE TIME PERIOD COVERED BY THIS RETURN OUR ORGANIZATION PROVIDED TRANSPORTATION FOR APPROXIMATELY 400 CLIENTS WHO WOULD NOT HAVE OTHERWISE BEEN ABLE TO RECEIVE THESE MEDICAL SERVICES. OUR ORGANIZATION PROVIDED CLIENTS WHO MUST TRAVEL LONG DISTANCES WITH OVERNIGHT ACCOMMODATIONS AT LOCATIONS NEAR ABORTION CLINICS. THIS IS NECESSARY IN ORDER TO MEET REQUIREMENTS UNDER STATE LAW WHICH MANDATES A 24 HOUR WAITING PERIOD BE OBSERVED IN ORDER TO RECEIVE THE MEDICAL SERVICES OF ABORTION. THE ORGANIZATION RESPONDED TO HOTLINE CALLS FROM PREGNANT PEOPLE WITH FAMILY PLANNING- RELATED ISSUES.
