THE CENTREVILLE IMMIGRATION FORUM CIF IMPLEMENTS SUSTAINABLE PROGRAMS THAT PROVIDE IMMIGRANTS IN NEED WITH MEANS TO IMPROVE THEIR LIVES AND BECOME MORE INTEGRATED INTO THE SUSTAINABLE PROGRAMS THAT PROVIDE IMMIGRANTS IN NEED WITH MEANS TO IMPROVE THEIR LIVES AND BECOME MORE INTEGRATED INTO THE COMMUNITY IMPROVE COMMUNICATION AND COOPERATION AMONG ALL GROUPS AND AFFIRM STRENGTH IN COMMUNITY DIVERSITY.

EMPLOYMENT: PROVIDED EMPLOYMENT SERVICES BY CONNECTING DAY LABORERS WITH EMPLOYERS. THE CENTREVILLE LABOR RESOURCE CENTER IS A SPACE WHERE THOSE LOOKING FOR WORK CAN MEET WITH THOSE WHO ARE HIRING AND THE CLRC STAFF ARE ABLE TO WITNESS JOB NEGOTIATIONS OFFER TRANSLATIONS WHEN NEEDED AND RECORD WORK AGREEMENTS. IN 2021 THE CLRC CONTINUED TO RECOVER FROM BEING CLOSED EXCEPT BY PHONE DURING THE CONTINUING PANDEMIC HIRING AND INCOME FOR WORKERS INCREASED FROM 2020: OVER $200,000 IN WAGES WERE EARNED BY WORKERS ON OVER 1,340 JOBS PLACED. THE CLRC OFFICE WAS USED FOR VACCINE CLINICS STAFFED BY VOLUNTEERS AND COUNTY HEALTH WORKERS.
COMMUNITY ORGANIZING: PROVIDED LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES AND LEADERSHIP SKILLS DEVELOPMENT. PROVIDED ASSISTANCE TO WORKERS WHO HAVE BEEN VICTIMS OF WAGE THEFT TO HELP THEM RECOVER WAGERS OWED. PROVIDED INFORMATION ON IMMIGRATION AND LABOR RIGHTS. ADVOCATED FOR STRONGER LABORT LAWS RACIAL EQUITY AND IMPROVEMENTS TO THE U.S. IMMIGRATION SYSTEM. EVEN WITH TEMPORARILY REDUCED STAFF AND IN THE MIDST OF THE CONTINUED PANDEMIC OVER $20,000 UNPAID WAGES WERE RECOVERED FOR WORKERS. THERE WERE 17 WORKER-COMMUNITY MEETINGS FOR ADVOCACY TRAINING PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION LABOR RIGHTS DRIVER PRIVILETGE CARDS VIRGINIA AND TIN'S AND MAKING TAX RETURNS.
EDUCATION: CLASSES IN ENGLISH FOR SPEAKERS OF OTHER LANGUAGE WERE HELD VIRTUALLY IN THE SPRING AND FALL OF 2021. MORE THAN HALF OF THE PARTICIPANTS WERE WOMEN. MANY PARENTS USED THEIR CHILDREN'S LAPTOPS PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL SYSTEM FOR THEIR DAYTIME CLASSES. THE CLASSES WERE HELD AT NIGHT. OUR RECORDS SHOW WE PROVIDED 93 ESOL CLASSES WITH 60 UNIQUE PARTICIPANTS FOR 2021.
