THE MISSION OF PRAXIS IS TO REVITALIZE THE FIELD OF FIBER ART IN THE CLEVELAND AREA BY GIVING LOCAL ARTISTS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS ACCESS TO FIBER RELATED EQUIPMENT, CLASSES AND STUDIO SPACE. PRAXIS IS DEDICATED TO INCREASING AWARENESS AND EXPANDING THE FIELD OF CONTEMPORARY FIBER ART BY CREATING AN ENVIRONMENT OF EXPERIMENTATION, EXHIBITION AND COMMUNICATION LOCALLY AND WITHIN THE BROADER ART COMMUNITY.

COMMUNITY CLASSES. PRAXIS OFFERS A VARIETY OF COURSES OPEN TO ALL COMMUNITY MEMBERS. THESE COURSES SPECIALIZE IN THE PROCESSES OF TEXTILE ARTS SUCH AS WEAVING, FABRIC SURFACE DESIGN AND YARN SPINNING. THERE ARE 3, 3 MONTH SESSIONS DURING THE YEAR WHERE 1 DAY WORKSHOPS RUN ON SATURDAYS AND 4 WEEK COURSES RUN IN THE EVENINGS (APPROX. 75 CLASSES)
COMMUNAL SPACE AND MEMBERSHIP. PRAXIS OFFERS 3 TIERS OF MEMBERSHIP FOR ARTS WHO WISH TO USE OUR WORKSHOP AS STUDIO SPACE. THE BASIC MEMBERSHIP LEVEL AT 55/MONTH ALLOWS ACCESS DURING OPEN STUDIO HOURS ONLY WHEN PRAXIS STAFF IS PRESENT. THE SECOND TIER, WORKING MEMBERSHIP FOR 125/MO ALLOWS 24/7 ACCESS TO THE FACILITY. FINALLY, THERE ARE 5 PRIVATE STUDIOS AVAILABLE AT 275/MO (30 TOTAL MEMBERS).
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT. PRAXIS USES ITS RESOURCES TO BRING ART TO THE LOCAL COMMUNITY FOR LOW COST OR FREE WORKSHOPS AND CLASSES. SOME OF THESE PROGRAMS INCLUDE, NATURAL DYE GARDENS IN THE RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOODS OF COLLINWOOD TO ENGAGE THE COMMUNITY ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF USING PLANT BASED DYE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT, MOBILE LOOM TO BRING INTO THE NEIGHBORHOODS AND FREE CLASSES FOR RESIDENTS OF OUR NEIGHBORHOOD (APPROX. 400 PEOPLE).
