SEE SCHEDULE O.NYC FIRST MANAGES ALL THREE FIRST PROGRAMS (FIRST LEGO LEAGUE, FIRST TECH CHALLENGE AND FIRST ROBOTICS COMPETITION) SERVING STUDENTS AGES 5 TO 18 IN THE FIVE BOROUGHS OF NYC AS WELL AS SOME OF THE SURROUNDING METROPOLITAN AREA. EACH OF THE PROGRAMS IS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE INNOVATIVE SKILL BUILDING IN SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING AND MATH THROUGH HANDS-ON, TEAM BASED ACTIVITIES. MOST OF THE ACTIVITY TAKES PLACE AS AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS WITH SOME COMMUNITY BASED ACTIVITIES AND SOME IN CLASSROOM TRAINING. NYC FIRST ALSO RAN A RANGE OF REMOTE PROGRAMS AT ITS TWO STEM CENTERS, INCLUDING YEAR-LONG HIGH SCHOOL COURSES, AFTER-SCHOOL AND WEEKEND WORKSHOPS, AND SUMMER PROGRAMS. NYC FIRST'S STEM CENTERS PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH IMMERSIVE AND SUSTAINED STEM EDUCATION FOCUSED ON TECHNOLOGY AND ENGINEERING. IN A CENTRALIZED LOCATION, EACH STEM CENTER PROVIDES LOCAL HIGH SCHOOLS WITH ACCESS TO FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT TOO SCARCE AND EXPENSIVE TO PROCURE, MAINTAIN AND SCALE IN INDIVIDUAL SCHOOLS. THE CENTERS ALSO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS TO LEARN FROM PROFESSIONALS WHO HAVE DEEP KNOWLEDGE OF ADVANCED STEM MACHINES AND TOOLS. EACH STEM CENTER PROVIDES A HANDS-ON, COLLABORATIVE LEARNING EXPERIENCE INITIALLY FOCUSED ON ROBOTICS AND MECHATRONICS, USING ADVANCED EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS, INCLUDING LASER CUTTERS, 3D PRINTERS, CNC ROUTERS, DRILL PRESSES, AND OTHER ITEMS. STUDENTS CREATE AND DEVELOP THEIR OWN PROJECTS, LEARN 21ST CENTURY SKILLS, AND GAIN CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE.NYC FIRST COORDINATES EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE NYC METRO AREA WHERE STUDENTS EXHIBIT AND COMPETE WITH THEIR ROBOTS. IN THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING JUNE 30, 2021, NYC FIRST CONDUCTED ITS EVENTS VIRTUALLY, DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. AS A RESULT OF PANDEMIC HARDSHIPS, FEWER STUDENTS AND TEACHERS PARTICIPATED IN NYC FIRST PROGRAM IN 2020-21 THAN HAVE DONE IN A TYPICAL YEAR, WITH APPROXIMATELY 2,000 STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN NYC FIRST PROGRAMS.NYC FIRST INC. HAS A CLOSE CONNECTION TO FIRST, A SEPARATE NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT IS CONSIDERED UNRELATED FOR TAX PURPOSES. NYC FIRST IS THE OFFICIAL REPRESENTATIVE OF ALL FIRST PROGRAMS IN NEW YORK CITY. NYC FIRST ENTERS INTO AGREEMENTS WITH FIRST THAT OUTLINE ITS ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES TO FURTHER THE MISSION OF FIRST. THROUGH THESE VARIOUS AGREEMENTS, THE TWO ORGANIZATIONS PARTICIPATE IN VARIOUS TRANSACTIONS, INCLUDING GRANTS.
