STUDENT VOICE STRATEGIES PREPARES INSTITUTIONS TO ACCEPT YOUTH LEADERS AS PARTNERS IN MAKING CHANGE, WHILE CHALLENGING SYSTEMS THAT HAVE KEPT MARGINALIZED VOICES OUT FOR TOO LONG. STUDENT VOICE TEAM MEMBERS WORK WITH CORPORATIONS, ORGANIZATIONS, SCHOOL DISTRICTS, AND OTHER INSTITUTIONS BY PROVIDING COACHING FOR ADULTS WHO ARE SEEKING TO CENTER YOUTH VOICE, FACILITATE AND CO-BRAND PANELS, WORKSHOPS, AND TRAININGS ON YOUTH VOICE, CONDUCT FOCUS GROUPS, LISTENING SESSIONS, AND STAKEHOLDER MEETINGS, AND PROVIDE COMPREHENSIVE YOUTH ENGAGEMENT STRATEGIES FOR ADULT-LED ORGANIZATIONS. STUDENT VOICE EXECUTED OVER 5 STUDENT VOICE STRATEGIES PROJECTS WITH CORPORATIONS, ORGANIZATIONS, SCHOOL DISTRICTS, AND OTHER INSTITUTIONS.
THE AWARENESS & OUTREACH PROGRAM RELATES TO EXPOSING & EDUCATING COMMUNITIES REGARDING SYSTEMATIC INEQUALITY ISSUES THAT SCHOOLS CURRENTLY ENCOUNTER.THROUGHOUT 2022, WE DROVE AND PARTICIPATED IN DIALOGUES RELATED TO THE IMPORTANCE OF YOUNG PEOPLE BEING INVOLVED IN PHILANTHROPY WITH GRANTMAKERS FOR THRIVING YOUTH, CORPORATE ENGAGEMENT IN EDUCATION WITH TED, AND DISTRICT LEVEL SCHOOL INNOVATION WITH NEW HANOVER COUNTY SCHOOLS.
THE STUDENT VOICE JOURNALISM FELLOWSHIP IS A COHORT OF 17 HIGH-SCHOOL-AGED YOUNG PEOPLE PASSIONATE ABOUT USING STORYTELLING AS A VEHICLE FOR SOCIAL CHANGE. FELLOWS HAVE ACCESS TO INDUSTRY MENTORS AND PARTICIPATE IN GROUP WORKSHOPS TO CRAFT NARRATIVES ABOUT THEIR DIVERSE ACADEMIC EXPERIENCES. BY PRODUCING MULTIMEDIA STORY CONTENT, THE FELLOWSHIP AMPLIFIES STUDENT VOICES IN THE BROADER EDUCATIONAL DIALOGUE NATIONWIDE. IN ADDITION TO PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ON THE PROCESS OF STORYTELLING, THE FELLOWSHIP EMPHASIZES COMMUNITY IMPACT THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS WITH LOCAL PRINT PUBLICATIONS, PUBLIC/TALK RADIO AND TV.
