THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES FUNDING FOR FUNDACION DEFENSORES DE AMOR, A NON-GOVERNMENT ORGANIZATION LOCATED IN LOS CORRALES, DISTRICTO MUNIPAL SAMAN, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC. FUNDACION DEFENSORES DE AMOR OPERATES A FACILITY AT THIS LOCATION. THIS PROPERTY IS APPROXIMATELY 2 ACRES AND HAS 3 BUILDINGS THAT ARE NEW IN CONSTRUCTION. THE BUILDING CONSISTS OF A MAIN HOME, FLANKED BY 2 DORMITORIES, AND IS REFERRED TO AS THE CHILDREN'S HOME COLLECTIVELY. THERE IS A BOYS DORMITORY AND A GIRLS DORMITORY. THE DORMITORIES ARE DESIGNED TO BE A PERMANENT RESIDENCE AND CAN HOUSE 28 CHILDREN. FUNDACION DEFENSORES DE AMOR PARTNERS WITH A LOCAL CHURCH AND HAS A LOVING STAFF THAT ARE SERVING IN THE CHILDREN'S HOME AS PART OF THEIR MINISTRY.
THE COMMUNITY BASED CARE PROGRAM OF FUNDACION DEFENSORES DE AMOR IS DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR THOSE CHILDREN WHO MEET THE FOUNDATION'S REQUIREMENTS OF HAVING A SUITABLE ADULT ADVOCATE, BUT ARE GROSSLY LACKING PHYSICAL, MEDICAL AND/OR EDUCATIONAL CARE. THROUGH CLOTHING, FEEDING, MEDICAL AND/OR EDUCATIONAL SPONSORSHIP THEIR CRITICAL NEEDS ARE MET. THE GOAL OF THE COMMUNITY CARE PROGRAM IS TO DEFER THE ORPHAN STATUS FOR CHILDREN THAT WOULD TYPICALLY BE CARED FOR IN THE CHILDREN'S HOME TO BEING CARED FOR BY THE SAME STANDARDS WITHIN THEIR COMMUNITIES BY A SUITABLE ADULT ADVOCATE.
FUNDACION DEFENSORES DE AMOR HAS ALSO ESTABLISHED A CHURCH THAT IS DESIGNED EXPLICITLY FOR CHILDREN AGES 2-17 YEARS OF AGE TO HELP ACHIEVE THE GOAL OF PROVIDING THE ADEQUATE SPIRITUAL CARE FOR THE CHILDREN WITHIN OUR CARE. THEY ARE OPEN TO THE CHILDREN WITHIN THE COMMUNITIES AND SERVE AS A POSITIVE CONDUIT FOR THE CONTINUAL INTEGRATION OF THE CHILDREN WITHIN OUR CARE AND THE COMMUNITIES THEY LIVE IN.
FUNDACION DEFENSORES DE AMOR ALSO HAS A PROPERTY DESIGNED TO HOST MISSIONARIES. THIS PROPERTY HAS TWO HOMES THAT SIT ON MORE THAN HALF AN ACRE. THE MAIN HOME CAN ACCOMMODATE UP TO 20 PEOPLE AND IS REFERRED TO AS THE MISSIONARY QUARTERS. THE SECOND HOME, CALLED CASA DE ROSA, CAN ACCOMMODATE ANOTHER 8 PEOPLE AND IS USED MAINLY FOR LONG-TERM MISSIONARIES.
