THE 9TH ANNUAL VIRTUAL GYNECOLOGIC CANCER AWARENESS & ARTS OF HEALING WEEKEND TOOK PLACE JANUARY 29TH - 31ST, 2021. THE WEEKEND FEATURES INCLUDED AN ART SHOWCASE DISPLAYED AT THE GEORGIA BLUE GALLERY WITH SALES ONLINE, A FREE ONE-DAY GYNECOLOGIC CANCER COURSE ON ZOOM AND A FREE SATURDAY NIGHT RHYTHM HEALS SONG CIRCLE ON OUR YOUTUBE PAGE FEATURING ALASKAN ARTIST EMMA HILL, NICK CARPENTER, AND JAMIE WHITEMAN. 380 PEOPLE REGISTERED FOR THE WEEKEND EVENTS WITH VIRTUAL ATTENDANCE THROUGHOUT ALASKA, THE US AND EVEN INTERNATIONALLY! $70,000 WAS RAISED TO FURTHER LEWK'S MISSION OF GYNECOLOGIC CANCER AWARENESS, EDUCATION, AND SUPPORT IN ALASKA. THE 14TH ANNUAL ALYESKA CLIMBATHON WENT VIRTUAL AND TOOK PLACE FROM SEPTEMBER 1ST - 10TH, 2021. 200 DEDICATED CLIMBERS HIT THE MOUNTAIN! A HEARTFELT THANK YOU TO OUR EVENT PARTNER ALYESKA RESORT, EVENT SPONSORS: ADVANCED ONCOLOGY ASSOCIATES, ALASKA CYBERKNIFE CENTER, DIMOND VISION CLINIC AND MOOSE'S/BROKE/BEARTOOTH, AND ALL THE CLIMBERS AND GENEROUS DONORS WHO HELPED RAISE $50,000. 100% OF FUNDS STAY IN THE STATE OF ALASKA WITH 25% GOING TO THE GIRDWOOD HEALTH CLINIC AND 75% TO LET EVERY WOMAN KNOW-ALASKA TO FURTHER OUR MISSION OF GYNECOLOGIC CANCER AWARENESS AND SUPPORT FOR ALASKAN WOMEN AND FAMILIES FACED WITH A GYN CANCER DIAGNOSIS.
THE EXTRA-TOUGHS IS AN EXCITING PROGRAM FOUNDED BY LET EVERY WOMAN KNOW-ALASKA TO PROVIDE AN INTEGRATIVE TEAM APPROACH TO SUSTAINABLE WEIGHT LOSS, HEALTHY LIFESTYLE, AND SURVIVORSHIP FOR GYNECOLOGIC CANCER AND BREAST CANCER SURVIVORS. THIS GROUP IS LIMITED TO WOMEN WHO FIT THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA: 1.) DIAGNOSED WITH A BREAST AND OR GYNECOLOGIC CANCER. 2.) COMPLETED PRIMARY TREATMENT (I.E. SURGERY, CHEMO, RADIATION) 3.) BODY MASS INDEX (BMI) = 30. THIS PROGRAM INCLUDES CUSTOM DESIGNED GROUP FITNESS EXERCISE THREE-TIMES A WEEK; WEEKLY SUPPORT GROUPS WITH FELLOW EXTRA-TOUGHS TO ADDRESS SUCCESSES AND CHALLENGES TOGETHER AND WEEKLY NUTRITION CLASSES TO LEARN HEALTHY EATING HABITS. IN 2021, THE VIRTUAL EXTRA-TOUGHS ANCHORAGE PROGRAM HAD FOUR 12-WEEK CYCLES WITH A TOTAL OF 11 NEW STARTS TO THE PROGRAM AND 35 RETURNING WOMEN. GENEROUS GRANT FUNDING FROM THE MAT-SU HEALTH FOUNDATION ALLOWED LET EVERY WOMAN KNOW-ALASKA TO CONTINUE THE EXTRA-TOUGHS MAT-SU PROGRAM. THERE WERE THREE 12-WEEK VIRTUAL COHORTS IN 2021 WITH A TOTAL OF 4 NEW START AND 10 RETURNING WOMEN.
