Part 3 - Line 1
THE MISSION OF THE BE KIND PEOPLE PROJECT IS TO IMPROVE THE EDUCATION (CONT'D ON SCH O) ENVIRONMENT IN OUR NATION'S SCHOOLS BY PURPOSEFULLY THANKING TEACHERS AND BY EQUIPPING THEIR STUDENTS WITH CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT TOOLS THAT BUILD POSITIVE AND HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP SKILLS.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
VIRTUAL PROGRAMS:IN THE SUMMER OF 2020, FREE PROGRAMS WERE AVAILABLE ONLINE FOR TEACHERS, SUMMER CARE PROVIDERS, AND PARENTS TO USE TO AUGMENT THEIR TEACHING AIDS. TEACHERS NEEDED NEW KINDS OF RESOURCES TO TEACH IN A REMOTE OR HYBRID MODEL, AND THE BE KIND PEOPLE PROJECT MET THAT NEED.BECAUSE THE BE KIND CREW EXPERIENCE IS IMPORTANT IN INSPIRING SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL, ACADEMIC, HEALTH, DIGITAL, AND CHARACTER EDUCATION, THE BE KIND CREW MOVIE WAS CREATED AND PRODUCED COMPLETELY IN-HOUSE BY THE BE KIND PEOPLE PROJECT. BECAUSE THE BE KIND CREW COULD NOT GO INTO SCHOOLS, THE EXPERIENCE WENT INTO CLASSROOMS AND HOMES FOR REMOTE LEARNERS. STUDENTS WERE ABLE TO EXPERIENCE THE EDUCATION AND MUSIC EXPERIENCE ON THEIR OWN TVS, LAPTOPS, OR MOBILE(CON'T ON SCH O) DEVICES.FOLLOWING THE BE KIND CREW MOVIE, A COMPREHENSIVE SET OF LESSONS, ACTIVITIES, WORKSHEETS, VIDEOS, AND MUSIC PLAYLISTS WERE DEVELOPED FOR STUDENTS AND PARENTS TO USE FOR CONSISTENCY IN FOLLOW-UP AND REINFORCEMENT.MOST OF THE VIRTUAL PROGRAMS WERE OFFERED AT NO CHARGE BECAUSE OF THE CRISIS THAT SCHOOLS, TEACHERS, AND PARENTS FACED. THE DEVELOPMENT COST OF THESE VIRTUAL PROGRAMS INCLUDING THE SIGNIFICANT PRODUCTION COSTS WERE INCURRED DURING THE FISCAL YEAR; HOWEVER, THE PERMANENCY AND RE-USE OF THESE PROGRAMS WILL ENDURE FOR YEARS TO COME. THE VIRTUAL PROGRAMS ALSO EXPANDED THE REACH OF THE BE KIND PEOPLE PROJECT TO ITS USE IN ALL 50 STATES, 10 COUNTRIES, AND HUNDREDS OF CITIES
BE KIND: AT THE CORE OF THE PROGRAM IS THE BE KIND PLEDGE TO HELP KIDS UNDERSTAND WHAT IT MEANS TO BE KIND BY PLEDGING TO BE ENCOURAGING, BE SUPPORTIVE, BE POSITIVE, BE HELPFUL, BE HONEST, BE CONSIDERATE, BE THANKFUL, BE RESPONSIBLE, BE RESPECTFUL, AND BE A FRIEND. THEY LEARN AND PRACTICE THE EMOTIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS NEEDED TO MAKE THESE VALUES AN INTEGRAL AND ONGOING PART OF THEIR LIVES. IT IS A POSITIVE, ACTION-BASED, INNOVATIVE SOLUTION FOR AMELIORATING UNWANTED SCHOOL AND PERSONAL BEHAVIOR, OFTEN MANIFESTED AS BULLYING, AND LEARN WHAT IT MEANS FOR THEM TO "BE KIND PEOPLE." BRINGING THE PLEDGE TO LIFE IS THE BE KIND CREW, A GROUP OF GIFTED YOUNG HIP HOP PERFORMERS WHO IMAGINATIVELY CONVEY THE KINDNESS MESSAGE AND CONNECT WITH STUDENTS IN CONTEMPORARY WAYS THAT KIDS FIND ENGAGING, RELEVANT (CON'T ON SCH O) AND FUN. THEY SERVE AS POSITIVE AND AMAZINGLY "COOL" BEHAVIOR ROLE MODELS FOR STUDENTS. THE BE KIND BREAK ONLINE PROGRAM PROVIDES MONTHLY LANGUAGE ARTS, MATH, AND EXERCISE ACTIVITIES THAT COMBINE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT SKILLS, HEALTHY HABITS MOTIVATION, DIGITAL RESPONSIBILITY LESSONS, AND INTERACTIVE DANCE/ MOVEMENT KINESTHETIC LEARNING VIDEOS WITH COMMON CORE STANDARDS, SEL (PER CASEL) SKILLS, AND CDC STANDARDS-AVAILABLE FOR TO ANY TEACHER IN AMERICA, FREE OF CHARGE TO USE IN THEIR LESSON PLANS. BE KIND BREAK PREMIUM IS ALSO AVAILABLE ON A SUBSCRIPTION BASIS FOR TEACHERS IN SCHOOLS WITH COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAMS. BE FIT. BE HEALTHY. BE KIND. ENCOURAGES HEALTHY LIFESTYLES BY TEACHING STUDENTS, TEACHERS, AND FAMILIES HOW TO MAKE PROPER NUTRITION CHOICES, IMPROVE OVERALL FITNESS, AND ENCOURAGE KIND BEHAVIOR. HEALTHY KIDS ARE BETTER STUDENTS WHO ARE BETTER ABLE TO FOCUS. STUDENTS WHO HAVE LEARNED HOW TO CARE FOR THEMSELVES RESPONSIBLY CAN OPERATE FROM A POSITION OF PLENTY, RATHER THAN SCARCITY, MAKING THEM BETTER ABLE TO INVEST OF THEMSELVES IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE OTHER KIDS IN THE CLASS - HAVING A SIGNIFICANT POSITIVE IMPACT ON THE EDUCATIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL ENVIRONMENT, AS WELL AS ON THEIR OWN SELF-CONFIDENCE THAT LEADS TO FURTHER SUCCESS.PROGRAM FOCUS IS WITHIN TITLE 1 SCHOOLS, WHERE THE FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH PROGRAMS EXCEEDED 80%. THESE SCHOOLS ARE POSITIONED IN NEIGHBORHOODS WITH A GREATER THAN AVERAGE NUMBER OF HOUSEHOLDS LIVING NEAR OR BELOW THE POVERTY LEVEL. RESEARCH HAS INDICATED THAT THERE IS A HIGH CORRELATION BETWEEN POVERTY, SELF-ESTEEM, AND OBESITY, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN IN THEIR FORMATIVE YEARS. #CYBERSKILLS BE KIND ONLINE EDUCATES AND INSPIRES STUDENTS AND TEACHERS TO PRACTICE THE SKILLS OF THE BE KIND PLEDGE ONLINE. WITH THE FOUNDATION BEING RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, AND SAFETY ONLINE, THIS INNOVATIVE PROGRAM OFFERS SOLUTIONS FOR CYBERBULLYING PROBLEMS.
