BALLOT MEASURE CAMPAIGNS - THE CHAMBER RAISES FUNDS, BUILDS COALITIONS, DOES MESSAGE POLLING, PURCHASES ADVERTISING, AND ORGANIZES CAMPAIGNS FOR THE ADOPTION OR DEFEAT OF SOUTH DAKOTA BALLOT MEASURES IN ACCORDANCE WITH ITS MISSION TO PROVIDE LEADERSHIP TO ENSURE A VIGOROUS AND PROSPEROUS BUSINESS CLIMATE FOR THE BENEFIT FOR ALL SOUTH DAKOTANS. SPENDING ON BALLOT MEASURE CAMPAIGNS VARIES DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF BALLOT QUESTIONS ON THE BALLOT AND THE CHAMBER'S EFFORTS ON THEIR ADOPTION OR DEFEAT. IN 2020, THE CHAMBER WAS ACTIVE IN ORGANIZING THE CAMPAIGN IN OPPOSITION OF AMENDMENT A. IN ADDITION, IN 2020, THE CHAMBER ALSO MAINTAINED THE SOUTH DAKOTA CHAMBER BALLOT ACTION COMMITTEE, WHICH IS AN ONGOING COMMITTEE THAT UTILIZES FUNDS TO SUPPORT OR DEFEAT BALLOT QUESTIONS AS THEY ARISE. NO REGULAR MEMBERSHIP DUES ARE USED FOR BALLOT CAMPAIGNS.
THE ANNUAL ECONOMIC OUTLOOK SEMINAR PROVIDES ATTENDEES WITH UPDATED INFORMATION ON THE STATE'S ECONOMY, AN EDUCATION ABOUT THE FACTORS THAT DRIVE THE ECONOMY AND FEATURES SPEAKERS ADDRESSING A CERTAIN SEGMENT OF THE ECONOMY. THE 2020 EVENT HAD 137 REGISTERED PARTICIPANTS.
BUSINESS DAY PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY FOR ATTENDEES TO GATHER IN PIERRE TO LEARN ABOUT AND DISCUSS THE LEGISLATIVE REGULATORY AND BALLOT ISSUES BEING DEBATED AND HEAR FROM LEADING SPEAKERS. ATTENDEES PARTICIPATE IN THE ANNUAL "BUSINESS CAUCUS" WHERE OPINIONS ON ONGOING AND CURRENT ISSUES ARE VOTED ON VIA TEXT MESSAGES, WITH THE RESULTS INSTANTLY TABULATED AND DISPLAYED.
