LEGAL SERVICES:CIS PROVIDES LOW-COST, COMPREHENSIVE, AND COMPETENT IMMIGRATION LEGAL SERVICES TO THE LOCAL IMMIGRANT COMMUNITY. CIS-NYC'S ATTORNEYS, DOJ ACCREDITED REPRESENTATIVES, AND SOCIAL WORKERS COLLABORATE TO PROVIDE HOLISTIC LEGAL SERVICES IN SPANISH AND ENGLISH, WITH AN EMPHASIS ON ASSISTING WITH FAMILY-BASED APPLICATIONS TO REUNIFY OR KEEP FAMILIES TOGETHER. WE ALSO MAKE REFERRALS TO TRUSTED COMMUNITY PARTNERS AND PROVIDE EXTENSIVE FOLLOW-UP SUPPORT. IN 2021 THE PROGRAM PROVIDED 677 LEGAL CONSULTATIONS AND TOOK ON 308 NEW IMMIGRATION LEGAL CASES. WE ESTIMATE THAT THE FAMILIES SERVED SAVED MORE THAN $527,000 IN LEGAL REPRESENTATION FEES.
SOCIAL SERVICES PROGRAM:CIS-NYC'S SOCIAL SERVICES PROGRAM INCLUDES CASE MANAGEMENT, SHORT-TERM CRISIS INTERVENTION COUNSELING, AND SUPPORT GROUPS. WE SUPPORT CLIENTS IN IDENTIFYING FINANCIAL RESOURCES, FEEDING THEIR FAMILIES, SECURING SAFE HOUSING, RECEIVING MEDICAL CARE, AND MORE. IN 2021 WE PROVIDED CASE MANAGEMENT IN THESE AREAS TO 200 CLIENTS. WE ALSO PROVIDED SHORT-TERM CRISIS COUNSELING TO 85 CLIENTS, AND 136 CLIENTS PARTICIPATED IN OUR SUPPORT GROUPS FOR IMMIGRANT WOMEN AND PARENTS. CIS-NYC'S SOCIAL SERVICES PROGRAM ALSO INCLUDES A RANGE OF SPECIAL INITIATIVES FOR FAMILIES AND STUDENTS, INCLUDING FAMILY TRIPS AND A SCHOLARSHIP FOR IMMIGRANT STUDENTS.
FOOD PANTRY:CIS-NYC'S FOOD PANTRY PROVIDES HEALTHY, WELL-BALANCED PACKAGES OF FOOD TO CLIENTS FROM OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY. IN 2021 WE ADDED A SECOND DISTRIBUTION DAY EACH WEEK IN ORDER TO MEET THE IMMEDIATE NEEDS OF OUR LEGAL AND SOCIAL SERVICES CLIENTS. IN 2021 WE DISTRIBUTED 9,723 PACKAGES CONTAINING FOOD, PPE, AND PERSONAL HYGIENE ITEMS TO 1,100 FAMILIES IN NEED. WE ESTIMATE THAT WE DISTRIBUTED OVER 250,000 MEALS WORTH OF FOOD. THROUGHOUT THE YEAR WE ALSO OFFERED A RANGE OF ADDITIONAL SERVICES AND RESOURCES THROUGH OUR PANTRY, INCLUDING: INFORMATION ABOUT THE CHILD TAX CREDIT; REFERRALS TO FREE COVID VACCINES; NUTRITIONAL WORKSHOPS; AND MORE.
JUSTICE FOR IMMIGRANTS:JUSTICE FOR IMMIGRANTS (JFI) PROGRAM AIMS TO ENGAGE OUR MULTIGENERATIONAL IMMIGRANT MEMBERSHIP IN EDUCATING THEIR COMMUNITIES, DEVELOPING LEADERSHIP SKILLS, BUILDING COMMUNITY RESILIENCE, AND ADVOCATING FOR A MORE HUMANE IMMIGRATION SYSTEM. JFI HAD 150 ACTIVE MEMBERS AT THE END OF 2021 WHO PARTICIPATED IN BIWEEKLY MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS, 19 VIRTUAL EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS, AND 23 ADVOCACY ACTIVITIES. MEMBERS ALSO ENGAGED IN VARIOUS LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS OUR 2-DAY INTENSIVE LEADERSHIP TRAINING AND "PAPELES" STORYTELLING PROGRAM. THREE JFI LEADERS COMPLETED OUR JFI FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM WHERE THEY HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO DEVELOP ORGANIZING AND OUTREACH SKILLS.
