THE GREEN URBAN LUNCH BOX'S MISSION IS TO EMPOWER PEOPLE TO CONNECT TO THEIR FOOD AND COMMUNITY BY REVITALIZING URBAN SPACES AND BUILDING A RESILIENT FOOD CULTURE.

OUR BACK-FARMS PROGRAM GREW AND DISTRIBUTED 20,892 POUNDS OF FRESH VEGETABLES IN THE BACKYARDS OF 54 SENIOR CITIZENS THROUGHOUT THE SALT LAKE VALLEY. THIS PRODUCE WAS DISTRIBUTED TO 1,896 SENIOR CITIZENS WHO VISITED OUR FREE FARM STANDS AND SALT LAKE COUNTY SENIOR CENTERS. IN THESE GARDENS WE TEACH GARDEN APPRENTICES HOW TO GROW THEIR OWN FOOD WHILE BEAUTIFYING NEIGHBORHOODS, BUILDING CROSS GENERATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS, AND BUILDING A POSITIVE FOOD CULTURE IN OUR COMMUNITY.
THE SMALL FARM INITIATIVE GREW 7,788 POUNDS OF FRESH VEGETABELS ON OUR URBAN COMMUNITY FARM AND DISTRIBUTED THE FOOD THROUGH OUR COMMUNITY SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE (CSA) PROGRAM. WE BEGAN A SLIDING SCALE CSA IN 2021, WHERE FOLKS COULD PAY WHAT THEY COULD AFFORD. WE ALSO BEGAN TO ACCPET SNAP AND DOUBLE UP FOOD BUCK BENEFITS. IN ADDITION TO THE VEGETABLES GROWN, WE TRAINED 14 FARM APPRENTICES/STEWARDS IN URBAN AGRICULTURE SKILLS AND SMALL BUSINESS MANAGEMENT.
OUR FRUITSHARE PROGRAM HARVESTED 33,457 POUNDS OF FRUIT FROM FRUIT TREES LOCATED IN COMMUNITY MEMBERS BACKYARDS. THIS FRUIT WAS RESCUED FROM THE LANDFILL, AND INSTEAD WAS DISTRIBUTED TO FEED FOOD INSECURE FAMILIES IN OUR COMMUNITY. WE HOSTED 74 VOLUNTEERS AT OUR FRUIT HARVESTS WHO VOLUNTEERED 774 HOURS OF THEIR TIME. IN EXCHANGE, THEY LEARN BASIC FRUIT TREE CARE, ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF FRESH NUTRITIOUS FOOD, AND FORGE A DEEP CONNECTION TO THEIR COMMUNITY.
