LITTLE FREE LIBRARY BOOK EXCHANGE NETWORKOUR CORE MISSION IS TO PROMOTE LITERACY AND THE LOVE OF READING BY BUILDING FREE NEIGHBORHOOD BOOK EXCHANGES. TODAY THERE ARE MORE THAN 100,000 REGISTERED LITTLE FREE LIBRARY BOOK-SHARING BOXES CIRCULATING MILLIONS OF FREE BOOKS, A PHENOMENON THAT CONTINUES TO INCREASE MOMENTUM. LITTLE FREE LIBRARIES NOW STAND IN FRONT YARDS, SCHOOLYARDS, CITY PARKS, AND MORE IN ALL 50 U.S. STATES AND 108 COUNTRIES WORLDWIDE, STRENGTHENING NEIGHBORHOODS, SPREADING LITERACY, AND BRINGING PEOPLE TOGETHER THROUGH THE LOVE OF READING.
COMMUNITY AND READING MOTIVATION PROGRAMSTHESE PROGRAMS EXPAND THE IMPACT OF PHYSICAL BOOK EXCHANGES WITH PURPOSEFUL ACTIVITIES THAT EXPAND BOOK ACCESS, ENCOURAGE READING HABITS, AND INCREASE NEIGHBORLINESS. WHILE THESE ACTIVITIES ARE APPROPRIATE FOR ANY LITTLE FREE LIBRARY LOCATION, THESE PROGRAMS PARTICULARLY SERVE THOSE COMMUNITIES THAT WISH TO STRENGTHEN LITERACY AND COMMUNITY. THE CORE PROGRAM INCLUDES GROWING THE BOOK-SHARING MOVEMENT; DEVELOPING ACTIVITIES THAT STIMULATE NEIGHBORLY CONNECTIONS; AND SUPPORTING THE NETWORK OF VOLUNTEER STEWARDS WHO PROVIDE THE DAY-TO-DAY MANAGEMENT AND CURATION OF EACH LITTLE LIBRARY.
READ IN COLOR IS A NEW INITIATIVE BRINGING DIVERSE BOOKS TO LITTLE FREELIBRARY BOOK-SHARING BOXES AROUND THE WORLD. THE READ IN COLOR PROGRAMDISTRIBUTES BOOKS THAT PROVIDE PERSPECTIVES ON RACISM AND SOCIALJUSTICE, CELEBRATE BIPOC AND LGBTQ VOICES, AND INCORPORATE EXPERIENCESFROM ALL IDENTITIES FOR ALL READERS. THE FOUNDATION OF THIS PROGRAMRESTS OUR NETWORK OF LITTLE FREE LIBRARY STEWARDS AND SUPPORTERS, TOBRING THIS INITIATIVE FORWARD. OUR GOAL IS TO PROVIDE A ROBUSTSELECTION OF DIVERSE BOOKS TO EVERY STEWARD WHO WISHES TO PARTICIPATE.TOGETHER, WE WILL WORK TOWARD A MORE UNIFIED, EMPATHETIC, ANDUNDERSTANDING COMMUNITY. CONCURRENTLY, WE WORK WITH LOCAL NON-PROFITORGANIZATIONS TO ESTABLISH BOOK SHARING NETWORKS WITHIN A DIVERSE BOOKDESERT COMMUNITIES WHILE BRINGING DIVERSE BOOKS TO THE AREA.
IMPACT FUNDTHE IMPACT LIBRARY PROGRAM PLACES BOOK EXCHANGES IN UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES, WHERE THEY CAN BE A CATALYST FOR IMPROVING READING MOTIVATION AND DEEPENING COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS. PROGRAM FUNDING COMES FROM CONTRIBUTED REVENUE AND FROM THE ORGANIZATION'S RETAIL SALES AND LIBRARY REGISTRATION FEES. THE IMPACT LIBRARY PROGRAM PLACES BOOK-SHARING BOXES IN THE HANDS OF COMMITTED STEWARDS WHERE THERE ARE LIMITED RESOURCES AND PROVIDING AN IMPACT LIBRARY WILL PROVIDE MEANINGFUL OUTCOMES TO THE COMMUNITY. A MONTHLY APPLICATION REVIEW PROCESS AND INSTALLATION FOLLOW-UP ESTABLISHES A CONNECTION BETWEEN LIBRARY RECIPIENTS AND THE LITTLE FREE LIBRARY COMMUNITY. RECIPIENTS OF IMPACT LIBRARIES ARE ASKED TO COMMIT TO SETTING UP AND MAINTAINING THE LIBRARY FOR ONE YEAR; TAKING A PICTURE AND SHARING ITS STORY; AND HOLDING AT LEAST ONE READING OR NEIGHBORHOOD ACTIVITY IN THE FIRST YEAR. OUR KIDS, COMMUNITY & COPS INITIATIVE, WHICH CONNECTS LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS WITH THE COMMUNITIES THEY SERVE, HAS BEEN ROLLED INTO THE IMPACT LIBRARY PROGRAM.OUR NATIVE LIBRARY INITIATIVE PLACES LITTLE FREE LIBRARY BOOK EXCHANGES IN TRIBAL COMMUNITIES ACROSS THE NATION TO MEANINGFULLY IMPROVE BOOK ACCESS. TO DATE LFL HAS PROVIDED MORE THAN 60 LIBRARIES TO TRIBAL COMMUNITIES, WHERE YOUTH REGULARLY POST THE LOWEST READING ACHIEVEMENT SCORES IN THE NATION. TO PLACE THE LIBRARIES, LITTLE FREE LIBRARY WORKS WITH NATIVE COMMUNITY LEADERS AND PARTNERS INCLUDING THE ASSOCIATION OF TRIBAL ARCHIVES, LIBRARIES, & MUSEUMS. THE NATIVE LIBRARY INITIATIVE IS A BRANCH OF THE IMPACT LIBRARY PROGRAM THAT IS SEPARATED OUT TO BETTER SERVE THE NATIVE COMMUNITY.IN A TWIST ON THE TRADITIONAL BOOK CLUB, LITTLE FREE LIBRARY'S ACTION BOOK CLUB INVITES PARTICIPANTS TO READ BOOKS ON TIMELY TOPICS, ENGAGE IN LIVELY DISCUSSIONS, AND TAKE PART IN MEANINGFULAND FUNGROUP SERVICE PROJECTS TO BENEFIT THEIR COMMUNITIES. THIS IS READING AND SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT AT ITS BEST. WHEN ACTION BOOK CLUB MEMBERS SHARE THEIR EXPERIENCES ONLINE, THEY HELP START A RIPPLE EFFECT OF POSITIVE ACTIVITY ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND AROUND THE WORLD. EXISTING BOOK CLUBS PARTICIPATE, AND SO DO SCHOOL CLASSROOMS AND OTHER GROUPS.
