LEADERSHIP AND EDUCATION: SAGE LED DISCUSSIONS AND WORKSHOPS TO RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT THE CHALLENGES FACING YOUNGER AND FUTURE GENERATIONS, AND WAYS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. WE LED FIVE EVENTS AND TWO EVENT SERIES ON TOPICS AS DIVERSE AS CIVIC ENGAGEMENT, CHARITABLE GIVING, AND INTENTIONAL NEIGHBORING. WE ALSO ENGAGED AND SUPPORTED OUR YOUNG LEADERS ADVISORY BOARD TO HOST A SERIES ON THE IMPORTANCE OF EXPANDING OUR PERSPECTIVES WHEN TAKING ON SOCIAL CAUSES.
LEGACY FELLOWSHIP: SAGE LAUNCHED ITS SEVENTH LEGACY FELLOWSHIP, OUR LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM TO INSPIRE, TRAIN, AND SUPPORT INDIVIDUALS AND TEAMS TO DEVELOP AND LEAD THEIR OWN COMMUNITY BENEFIT PROJECTS. DURING THIS NINE-MONTH PROGRAM, EACH FELLOW DEFINED A PROJECT THAT FOCUSED ON HOW TO HELP STUDENTS RECOVER FROM A TOUGH YEAR AT SCHOOL, AND THEN LEVERAGED THEIR STRENGTHS TO IMPLEMENT THE PROJECT. FELLOWS LED INSPIRING PROJECTS TO PROMOTE MENTAL HEALTH, HEAL TRAUMA, HELP IMMIGRANT AND REFUGEE PARENTS AND THEIR STUDENTS, BUILD HOPE AND RESILIENCY AMONG BLACK YOUTH, PROMOTE CIVICS EDUCATION, AND TO PROVIDE ONRAMPS TO COLLEGE FOR STUDENTS EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS. SAGE HONORED THE SEVEN GRADUATES OF THE PROGRAM IN EARLY 2022. TOGETHER, FELLOWS DEMONSTRATE HOW CITIZEN INITIATIVES STRENGTHEN COMMUNITIES AND IMPROVE OUR WORLD.
TEAMS: SAGE LED FOUR INNOVATION TEAMS TO ADDRESS CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES IN OUR THREE FOCUS AREAS: EDUCATION, THE ENVIRONMENT, AND ECONOMIC SECURITY. IN RESPONSE TO THE PANDEMIC, SAGE LAUNCHED AN ONLINE MENTORING PROGRAM TO ENGAGE OLDER ADULTS AS MENTORS TO HELP MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS DEVELOP PROFICIENCY IN READING, WRITING, AND SPEAKING ENGLISH. OUR VISION 2030 TEAM DEVELOPED AND TAUGHT LESSONS TO HELP STUDENTS LEARN ABOUT OUR REGION'S CLIMATE GOALS, AND WE PARTNERED WITH A LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICT TO SPOTLIGHT GREEN WORKFORCE OPPORTUNITIES. THROUGH OUR CITIZEN PROJECT, WE OFFERED SIX EVENTS THAT FOCUSED ON THE LEADERSHIP ROLE THAT OLDER ADULTS PLAY TO BRING PEOPLE TOGETHER ACROSS DIFFERENCES TO SOLVE PUBLIC PROBLEMS. OUR FOURTH TEAM, EVS FOR ALL, OFFERED WORKSHOPS TO HELP OLDER ADULTS LEARN ABOUT ELECTRIC VEHICLES AND WE ALSO DEVELOPED TWO ELECTRIC VEHICLE CAR SHARE PROGRAMS FOR OLDER ADULTS TO ACCESS ELECTRIC VEHICLES.
OTHER PROGRAMS: SAGE ENGAGED IN A RANGE OF OTHER EFFORTS TO INSPIRE OLDER ADULTS TO GIVE FORWARD SO THAT YOUNGER AND FUTURE GENERATIONS CAN THRIVE. FOR EXAMPLE, WE HOSTED OUR SAGE AWARDS TO HONOR AN INDIVIDUAL AND AN ORGANIZATION FOR THEIR LEADERSHIP IN WORKING ACROSS GENERATIONS TO BUILD A BRIGHTER FUTURE. WE HELPED THE GREEN TEAMS OF SIX SENIOR RESIDENTIAL COMMUNITIES TO BETTER NETWORK AND SUPPORT ONE ANOTHER. WE WORKED MORE INTENTIONALLY TO SUPPORT THE DEVELOPMENT OF IMPACT NETWORKS BETWEEN ORGANIZATIONS WHO WORK ON COMMON CAUSES. WE PARTICIPATED IN A LEADERSHIP SERIES ON CREATING A MORE DIVERSE, MULTI-CULTURAL COMMUNITY. SAGE CONTINUED TO OFFER PERSONALIZED ADVICE AND COACHING TO HELP OLDER ADULTS FIND MEANINGFUL SERVICE AND ADVOCACY ROLES WITH NONPROFIT PARTNERS.
