CATCH UP & READ'S MISSION IS TO EQUIP ELEMENTARY STUDENTS FROM UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES TO READ ON GRADE-LEVEL BY 3RD GRADE SO THEY CAN GRADUATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL AND BREAK THE POVERTY CYCLE.

CATCH UP & READ (CAR) PROVIDES BOTH TEACHER TRAINING AND AFTER SCHOOL TUTORING FOR LOW PERFORMING STUDENTS. CAR RAISES THE BAR ON CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION AND REINFORCES LEARNING AFTER SCHOOL TO MAXIMIZE THE DOSAGE OF CONSISTENT, HIGH QUALITY INTERVENTION THAT EACH CHILD RECEIVES SO THAT THEY CAN ACTUALLY CATCH UP. TEACHER TRAINING INCORPORATES SCIENCE-BASED LITERACY AND SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL PRACTICES THAT MEET THE NEEDS OF AT-RISK CHILDREN. HIGH QUALITY CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION PROVIDES EQUITABLE INSTRUCTION FOR EVERY CHILD IN THE CLASSROOM FOR YEARS TO COME. TEACHERS RECEIVE 100 HOURS OF TRAINING AND APPLY THEIR LEARNINGS WITH BOTH THEIR CLASSROOM STUDENTS AND AFTER SCHOOL TUTORING WHILE RECEIVING CAR'S ACTIVE FEEDBACK AND COACHING. STUDENTS RECEIVE 70 HOURS OF TUTORING. CAR IS ONE OF THE FEW AGENCIES PROVIDING BOTH SPANISH AND ENGLISH INTERVENTION ONSITE AT THEIR SCHOOLS. STUDENTS ADVANCE AT A FASTER RATE OF THEIR CLASSMATES AND TEACHERS REPORT INCREASED MORALE, TENURE AND EFFECTIVENESS.
