THE HAWAII STATE TEACHERS ASSOCIATION - RETIRED (HSTA-RETIRED) OPERATES EXCLUSIVELY AS A SOCIAL WELFARE ORGANIZATION WITHIN THE MEANING OF INTERNAL REVENUE CODE SECTION 501 (C) (4) FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING SERVICES AND ACTIVITIES TO PROMOTE THE SOCIAL, PROFESSIONAL, ECONOMIC STATUS, AND GENERAL WELFARE OF THE MEMBERSHIP. THE MEMBERSHIP CONSISTS OF RETIRED TEACHERS OF THE STATE OF HAWAII - DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION. THE HSTA-RETIRED FURNISHES A PRACTICAL BASIS FOR UNITED ACTION IN THE CAUSE OF EDUCATION; PROMOTES VOLUNTARY PARTICIPATION BY ITS MEMBERS IN CIVIC AND EDUCATIONAL AFFAIRS; INITIATES AND SUPPORTS LEGISLATIVE ACTION THAT IS BENEFICIAL TO RETIRED PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS; AND SUPPORTS HAWAII STATE TEACHERS ASSOCIATION (HSTA) AND ITS PROGRAMS.
