DONATE LIFE TEXAS' PARTNERSHIP WITH TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY (DPS) IN 2021 ADDED JUST OVER 795,000 TEXANS WHO SAID 'YES' TO ORGAN, EYE, AND TISSUE DONATION. TEXAS' TRANSPORTATION CODE REQUIRES ORGAN, EYE, AND TISSUE DONATION EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS ARE AVAILABLE TO ALL THOSE CONDUCTING BUSINESS AT THE 250+ TEXAS DRIVER'S LICENSE OFFICES ACROSS THE STATE. ADDITIONALLY, THE CODE REQUIRES ALL DL AND ID CARD APPLICANTS BE ASKED ABOUT BECOMING AN ORGAN DONOR. TO SATISFY THESE REQUIREMENTS, DONATE LIFE TEXAS CONTINUES TO PROVIDE TRAINING, EDUCATION, MATERIAL AND RECOGNITION PROGRAMS TO TEXAS DPS OFFICES, LEADERS, AND PERSONNEL TO LEVERAGE THEIR PUBLIC INTERACTIONS ON BEHALF OF ORGAN, EYE, AND TISSUE DONATION. DLT'S EFFORTS WITH DPS HERE RESULTED IN OVER 90% OF ALL THOSE WHO JOINED THE REGISTRY DID SO THROUGH A DPS OFFICE. IN ADDITION TO A PARTNERSHIP WITH DPS, DLT ALSO COORDINATES ORGAN DONATION AWARENESS WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES (VEHICLE REGISTRATION) AND TEXAS PARKS AND WILDLIFE AGENCY (HUNTING AND FISHING LICENSES.)
DLT SPONSORED SEVERAL EVENTS TO INCREASE PUBLIC AWARENESS, INSPIRE DONATION, CREATE/MAINTAIN DONOR ADVOCATES. DLT PARTICIPATES ANNUALLY IN THE TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF STUDENT COUNCIL (TASC) CONFERENCE, WHICH INTRODUCES THOUSANDS OF TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT LEADERS ON ORGAN DONATION AND STIMULATES VARIOUS ORGAN DONOR DRIVES AROUND THE STATE. STATEWIDE, DLT ORGANIZES COMMUNICATIONS ON KEY COMMEMORATIONS AND OBSERVANCES SUCH AS: BLACK HISTORY MONTH, NATIONAL DONATE LIFE MONTH, PRIDE MONTH, TRANSPLANT GAMES, DPS APPRECIATION MONTH, AND HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH. DONATE LIFE TEXAS CONTINUES TO PARTNER WITH NASCAR DRIVER JOEY GASE, WHICH BRINGS STATEWIDE AND NATIONWIDE ATTENTION TO ORGAN DONATION IN TEXAS. DLT GIVES BACK TO COMMUNITIES AROUND TEXAS BY SPONSORING SEVERAL EVENTS SUCH AS BIKE RIDES, RUNS, AND OTHER EVENTS ALL OF WHICH RAISE AWARENESS AROUND THE STATE WITH THOUSANDS OF TEXANS.
THE DLT EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AND BOARD OF DIRECTORS CONSISTENTLY ENGAGE TEXAS STATE LEGISLATORS AND STAFFERS ON DATA, TRENDS, AND DONATION EQUITIES. THE STATE LEGISLATURE MET IN 2021 AND IS SCHEDULED TO MEET AGAIN IN 2023. DURING THE 2021 CYCLE, DLT PROVIDED SEVERAL MEMBERS AND STAFFERS WITH INFORMATION ON SUCH TOPICS AS "MANDATORY OPT-OUT" SYSTEMS. AS A RESULT, THE TEXAS LEGISLATURE CREATED THE CONDITIONS FOR MAXIMUM EFFICIENCIES FOR ORGAN DONATION ACROSS THE STATE. AS PART OF EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATIONS TO CONGRESSIONAL LEADERS, DONATE LIFE TEXAS BRINGS TOGETHER SEVERAL ORGANIZATIONS AROUND THE STATE IN ORDER TO PROMOTE COMMUNICATION ALIGNMENT AND CONSISTENCY WHICH INCLUDE: TEXAS' 3 ORGAN PROCUREMENT ORGANIZATIONS, EYE BANKS, TISSUE BANKS, LIVING DONOR ORGANIZATIONS, VOLUNTEERS, ADVOCATES, DONOR FAMILIES, FUNERAL PROFESSIONALS, ACADEMIC PERSONNEL, MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS, AND OTHERS.
