Part 3

SITE MANAGEMENT EFFORTS:WORK DAYS BEGAN AGAIN IN THE SUMMER AFTER A SIGNIFICANT GAP DUE TO COVID. HIGHLIGHTED BY THE WELL ATTENDED FOURTH ANNUAL STEPHEN J. ANDERER DAY OF SERVICE IN OCTOBER, MEMBERS OF THE FRIENDS AND OTHER VOLUNTEER GROUPS MADE UP FOR LOST TIME AND MADE A POSITIVE IMPACT AT THE CEMETERY. AN ARBORIST MARKED TREES FOR REMOVAL, WHICH HAVE SUBSEQUENTLY OCCURRED. THE MEADOW AREA PLANTINGS BEGAN TO TAKE ROOT, OVERSEEN BY BOARD MEMBER BOB GRAY. SPECIFIC MEADOW PLANTS AND GRASSES WILL TAKE SOME TIME TO OVERCOME THE INVASIVE SPECIES THAT HAD TAKEN HOLD, BUT WITH ONGOING ATTENTION WE HOPE TO SEE CONTINUED PROGRESS. RAILROAD TIES WERE LAID AROUND THE CONSERVED GRAVE SECTIONS ON THE UPPER PLATEAU, WHICH IS THE FIRST AREA YOU SEE WHEN CROSSING THROUGH THE ENTRANCE GATES. ALONG WITH WOOD CHIPS FOR STABILIZATION, THE TIES HELP DELINEATE EACH SECTION OF THESE GRAVES AND THOSE AREAS REALLY DO LOOK GOOD. ACCESS:THE MAIN ACCESS POINT TO THE CEMETERY IS THE UPPER RIGHT-OF-WAY THROUGH THE NEIGHBORING PROPERTY OWNED BY BOARD MEMBER ALAN KIRSCH. ALAN AND JOAN CONTINUE TO BE GRACIOUS IN HONORING OUR ACCESS RIGHTS. IT REMAINS A GOAL OF OURS TO FIND ADDITIONAL ACCESS TO THE CEMETERY. MEMBERSHIP:WE WOULD LIKE TO EXPAND OUR OUTREACH AND ATTRACT ADDITIONAL MEMBERS TO CONTINUE THE PROGRESS WE HAVE BEEN MAKING. SPECIFIC NUMBERS ARE CONTAINED IN THE ANNUAL REPORT ON THE STATE OF THE CORPORATION.DUES, DONATIONS AND MEMBERSHIP:WE WERE FORTUNATE TO AGAIN TO HAVE BENEFITED FROM A SIGNIFICANT MATCH DONATION OFFER FROM AN ANONYMOUS DONOR, WHICH WAS FULLY MATCHED BY OTHER DONATIONS. WE ALSO ONCE AGAIN RECEIVED A SIGNIFICANT DONATION FROM THE GOLDSTEIN FOUNDATION. MEMBERSHIP FIGURES CAN BE FOUND IN THE ANNUAL REPORT ON THE STATE OF THE CORPORATION. HEADSTONES/GRAVES:JOE FERANNINI, OF GRAVE STONE MATTERS, HAS BEEN REMARKABLE IN HIS EFFORTS TO CONSERVE AND REPAIR THE GRAVES. WELL OVER 100 GRAVES HAVE BEEN COMPLETED. OUR GOAL TO CREATE AN AREA WITHIN THE CEMETERY THAT APPROXIMATES A FINISHED CONDITION SO THAT VISITORS AND POTENTIAL DONORS CAN SEE WHAT IS POSSIBLE THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE CEMETERY IS CLOSE TO BEING FULLY REALIZED. JOE IS AT THE CEMETERY TODAY AND FOR THE NEXT WEEK AND A HALF, AND WE WILL HEAR FROM HIM LATER AS PART OF THIS MEETING. TRANSLATION EFFORTS PROGRESSED THROUGH THE EFFORTS OF TRUSTEES MARJI HENDLER AND ELLIOT ROSEN. MARJI CREATED A PHOTOGRAPHIC DATABASE DATA BASE FOR ALL THE GRAVES THAT JOE FERRANNINI HAS COMPLETED. ELLIOT IS SPEARHEADING THE TRANSLATION OF THE HEADSTONES SHOWN IN THOSE PHOTOS. EFFORTS TO FINALIZE A SEARCHABLE DATABASE WILL LED BY TRUSTEE STEVE FINKELMAN.
