WATERSHED EDUCATION--DUE TO ONGOING ISSUES WITH COVID-19 AND IN-PERSON GATHERINGS, MOST OF OUR EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS REMAINED DIGITAL. WE USED AV EQUIPMENT TO PROVIDE VIDEO LESSONS FOR CLASSROOMS AND CREATED RECORDINGS ON WATER RIGHTS FOR REAL ESTATE PROFESSIONALS. PROGRAMS INCLUDED: "EARTH STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM" A PARTNERSHIP WITH 4 LOCAL SCHOOLS THAT ENGAGE HUNDREDS OF 7TH GRADERS THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR; THE "DID YOU KNOW?" VIDEO SERIES ON YOUTUBE AND THE "WATERSHED WELLNESS" COLUMN IN THE RAVALLI REPUBLIC; THE "BITTERROOT RIVER CLEAN-UP" DRIVE THROUGH EVENT AND "CLEAN-UP ALL YEAR", A REUSABLE TRASH BAG PROGRAM TO ENCOURAGE RIVER STEWARDSHIP EVERY DAY; AND TARGETED PRESENTATIONS TO COMMUNITY GROUPS AND LOCAL CITIZENS.
WATERSHED RESTORATION PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION, DESIGN AND MONITORING--IMPLEMENTED "ROOTS AGAINST EROSION" AT THE SKALKAHO BEND PARK. WORKING WITH LOCAL CONRACTORS AND CONSULTANTS THE BWRF INSTALLED THOUSANDS OF NATIVE PLANTS ALONG A HALF-MILE SWALE IN AN EFFORT TO GROW A WEB OF ROOTS THAT WILL MINIIZE THE EROSIVE DESTRUCTION OF THE PARKLAND FROM THE EVER MIGRATING RIVER. THE PERIMETER OF THE SWALE WAS SURROUNDED BY TALL FENCING TO MINIMIZE WILDLIFE BROWSE AND HUMAN IMPACTS FOR THE PLANTS. BRWF ALSO COMPLETED PHASE 2 ALONG THE BURNT FORK, INSTALLING FENCING AND PROTECTING PLANTS TO IMPROVE WATER QUALITY AND SUPPORT THE FISHERY. MONITORING WAS CONDUCTED WITH THE WATERSHED ENHANCEMENT TEAM ON MULTIPLE PROJECT SITES ALONG THE EAST FORK, MILLER CREEK,BURNT FORK, AND THE BITTERROOT RIVER.
