MIDWEST CHILDREN'S BURN CAMP (MCBC); OPEN TO CHILDREN AGES 6 TO 18 WHO HAVE EXPEIRENCED BURN AND/OR SMOKE INHALIATION INJUSIRES. CAMPERS ATTEND FREE OF CHARGE INCLUDING TRANSPORTION, FOR A WEEK-LONG RESIDENTIAL SUMMER CAMP. CHILDREN ENJOY ZIP LINING, KAYAKING, WATER TUBING AND OTHER TRADITIONAL ACTIVITIES, WITH CHILDREN OF SIMILAR TRAUMA EXPERIENCES AND FREE OF SOCIAL BARRIERS.
ASSISTANCE, PREVENTION AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING: PROVIDE HOUSING ASSISTANCE FOR FAMILY MEMBERS WHILE A LOVED ONE IS HOSPITALIZED FOR BURN INTJUIRES; FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO BURN SURVIVORS TO PUCHASE NECESSARY AND COSTLY COMPRESSION GARMENTS; SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR BURN SURVIVORS ATTENDING COLLEGE, TOTALED $10,000; EDUCATION FOCUSED ON SAFETY AND PREVENTION PROGRAMMING TO PROVIDE INFORMATION, STRATEGIES, AND SKILLS TO IDENTIFY AND AVOID HIGH RISK SITUATIONS, INDIVIDUALS CAN PREVENT BURN AND FIRE INJURIES; YOUTH FIRE SETTER PREVENTION PROGRAM; WORK AND SCHOOL RE-ENTRY ASSISTANCE; INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP PEER SUPPORT FOR BURN PATIENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES.
