LOUIS, ALONG WITH AN EXTENSIVE COLLECTION OF ORIGINAL FIELD FURNISHINGS AND ARTIFACTS. IT PROVIDES THE COMMUNITY A SOURCE OF HISTORIC LIFE IN LATE 19TH CENTURY ST. LOUIS, ALONG WITH EDUCATING THE COMMUNITY ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF THE FIELD FAMILY IN ST. LOUIS HISTORY.

THIS ORGANIZATION IS DEDICATED TO MAINTAINING AND PRESERVING THE RESIDENCE OF THE ATTORNEY ROSWELL FIELD, WHO DEVELOPED THE LEGAL THEORY TO INITIATE THE DRED & HARRIET SCOTT CASE INTO FEDERAL COURT SYSTEM, WHICH IS WHY THE HOUSE WAS RECOGNIZED AND NAMED A NATIONAL HISTORIC LANDMARK. IN ADDITION, IT IS THE BIRTHPLACE OF EUGENE FIELD, THE UNITED STATES POET LAUREATE. MANY OF OUR COLLECTIONS AND ARTIFACTS BELONGED TO EUGENE FIELD. THE ROLE OF THE ORGANIZATION IS TO BE AN EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE IN HISTORY, HUMANITIES AND HISTORICAL PRESERVATION, AND TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES TO EXPERIENCE THE MANY FACETS OF THE HISTORY OF THE FAMILY THAT ONCE LIVED IN THE HISTORIC HOME.
