THE MISSION OF WILDWOOD OUTDOOR EDUCATION CENTER IS TO PROVIDE HIGH QUALITY EXPERIMENTAL OUTDOOR LEARNING TO DIVERSE GROUPS IN OUR REGION, IMMERSING CHILDREN IN AN UNIQUE ENVIRONMENT THAT ENCOURAGES SOCIAL INTERACTION AND STIMULATES LEARNING IN THE OUTDOORS.

THE SUMMER ADVENTURE PROGRAM IS WILDWOOD'S SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM FOR GIRLS AND BOYS AGES 8 TO 15. SUMMER ADVENTURE ALSO INCLUDES FIND YOURSELF LEADERSHIP CAMP AND WOMEN OF WILDWOOD SUMMER ADVENTURE OFFERS A WEEK LONG RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM, WHICH OFFERS CHILDREN A WIDE VARIETY OF ACTIVITIES TO CHOOSE FROM IN A NONCOMPETITIVE ENVIRONMENT. THREE KEY LEANING EXPERIENCES OVERCOMING CHALLENGES, APPLYING SCIENCE AND BUILDING COMMUNITY PROVIDE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES. NINE ESSENTIAL OUTCOMES ARE ACHIEVED FOR CAMPERS INCLUDING INCREASED PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS, AN INTEREST IN EXPLORATION AND FRIENDSHIP SKILLS. IN 2022, WILDWOOD SERVED OVER 600 YOUTH FOR WEEK-LONG OVERNIGHT CAMPS.


THE OUTDOOR SCHOOL PROGRAM IS A ONE TO THREE DAY RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING FOR STUDENTS FROM THE KANSAS CITY AREA. STUDENTS ARE JOINED BY THEIR TEACHERS AND PARENTS, WHO STAY WITH THEM IN THEIR CABINS AND HELP LEAD ACTIVITIES. THE OUTDOORS IS THE CLASSROOM, AND THE FOREST, POND, AND MEADOWS ARE THEIR BIOLOGICAL LABORATORY, AS THEY LEARN ABOUT BASIC SUBJECTS LIKE LANGUAGE ARTS, ECOLOGY, MATH, GEOLOGY, AND HISTORY. NATURE BECOMES THEIR INSPIRATION FOR WRITING ESSAYS AND POEMS, OFFERS A HANDS-ON CLASSROOM TO INTRODUCE AND APPLY CONCEPTS FROM THE CLASSROOM AND AWAKENS A CURIOSITY AND APPRECIATION FOR THE INTERRELATIONSHIPS OF THE INHABITANTS AND THEIR HABITAT SUPPORTED BY THIS BEAUTIFUL, NATURAL 150 ACRE FACILITY. IN 2022, WILDWOOD PROVIDED SCHOOL FIELD TRIPS FOR 2,500 YOUTH.


FACILITY USE INCLUDES RETREATS AND REUNIONS TO USER GROUPS AND CORPORATE CHALLENGE THAT ARE FUNDED BY THE RELATED RENTAL CHARGES.
