THE SENIOR COMPANION PROGRAM MATCHES SENIORS 55 AND OVER IN JACKSON COUNTY, MO WHO LIVE AT OR BELOW THE FEDERAL FINANCIAL POVERTY LINE WITH HOMEBOUND SENIORS. THE SENIOR COMPANIONS PROVIDE 5-40 HOURS A WEEK OF CRITICAL IN-HOME COMPANIONSHIP TO THEIR HOMEBOUND CLIENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES TO HELP THEM STAY IN THEIR HOMES, REDUCE DANGEROUS SOCIAL ISOLATION AND ALLOW CAREGIVERS TIME TO TAKE CARE OF IMPORTANT FAMILY BUSINESS. FOR THEIR DEDICATION, THE SENIOR COMPANIONS ARE PAID A SMALL STIPEND AND ARE REIMBURSED FOR THEIR TRANSPORTATION. IN 2021, 42 COMPANIONS SERVED OVER 49 INDIVIDUALS PROVIDING OVER 47,800 HOURS OF SERVICE AT NO CHARGE TO THE CLIENTS AND SAVING FAMILIES AND TAXPAYERS AN ESTIMATED AMOUNT OVER $950,000.
