IOWA FALLS CLINIC WAS A JOINT VENTURE BETWEEN HANSEN FAMILY HOSPITAL AND MERCY MEDICAL CENTER NORTH IOWA, LOCATED IN IOWA FALLS, IOWA. THE PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE CLINIC WAS TO DEVELOP, COORDINATE, AND PROVIDE ALL MANNERS OF CLINICAL MEDICAL SERVICES TO RESIDENTS, VISITORS, AND EMPLOYEES OF HARDIN COUNTY AND THE SURROUNDING AREA. TO FULFILL ITS MISSION OF COMMUNITY SERVICE, THE CLINIC PROVIDED CARE TO PATIENTS WHO MEET CERTAIN CRITERIA UNDER ITS CHARITY CARE POLICY WITHOUT CHARGE OR AT AMOUNTS LESS THAN ITS ESTABLISHED RATES. REVENUE FROM SERVICES TO THESE PATIENTS IS RECORDED IN THE ACCOUNTING SYSTEM AT THE ESTABLISHED RATES, BUT THE CLINIC DOES NOT PURSUE COLLECTION OF THE AMOUNTS. THE RESULTING ADJUSTMENTS WERE RECORDED AS ADJUSTMENTS TO PATIENT SERVICE REVENUE, DEPENDING ON THE TIMING OF THE CHARITY DETERMINATION. EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2020, IOWA FALLS CLINIC SOLD MANY OF THE ASSETS OF THE CLINIC TO HANSEN FAMILY HOSPITAL, WHO THEN TOOK OVER CLINIC OPERATIONS VIA AN ASSET PURCHASE AGREEMENT. CERTAIN ASSETS OF THE CLINIC WERE EXCLUDED FROM THE ASSET PURCHASE AGREEMENT SUCH AS CASH AND ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE. REMAINING CASH BALANCES OF THE CLINIC AFTER COLLECTION OF ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE BALANCES WILL BE DISTRIBUTED TO THE HOSPITAL AND MERCY MEDICAL CENTER NORTH IOWA.
