MOUNT PLEASANT AREA OPERATION PRIDE INC OPERATES AS MAIN STREET MOUNT PLEASANT. THE MISSION OF MAIN STREET MOUNT PLEASANT IS TO STIMULATE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, STRENGTHEN THE ECONOMIC AND CULTURAL VITALITY, NURTURE A CREATIVE MIX OF ACTIVITIES, ENVIRONMENTS AND EXPERIENCES, AND PROVIDE ENERGY, LEADERSHIP AND SUPPORT FOR PUBLIC/PRIVATE INITIATIVES THAT ENCOURAGE THE GROWTH AND VITALITY OF DOWNTOWN MOUNT PLEASANT BY PROMOTING DOWNTOWN AS AN EXCITING PLACE TO LIVE, SHOP, AND INVEST.
IN 2012, MOUNT PLEASANT AREA OPERATION PRIDE FORMED A LIMITED LIABLIITY COMPANY, UNION BLOCK LLC, TO REHAB A LARGE HISTORIAL BUILDING ON THE SQUARE IN MOUNT PLEASANT, IOWA. THE BUILDING HAD BEEN DAMAGED BY A FIRE A FEW YEARS PRIOR TO 2012 AND THE PRIOR OWNERS DID NOT REPAIR THE BUILDING FOLLOWING THE FIRE. IF THE BUILDING HAD BEEN TAKEN DOWN, IT WOULD HAVE REMOVED HALF OF THE STORE FRONTS FROM THE NORTH SIDE OF THE DOWNTOWN SQUARE. UNION BLOCK LLC OBTAINED GRANTS AND DONATIONS TO FUND THE REHAB OF THE BUILDING. THE REHAB OF THE BUILDING WAS COMPLETED IN 2015. THIS ORGANIZATION CONTINUES TO HOST FUNDRAISING AND APPLY FOR GRANTS TO REDUCE THE DEBT RELATED TO THE REHAB OF THE BUILDING. THE UNION BLOCK LLC RENTS OUT RETAIL STORE FRONTS ON THE MAIN LEVEL, OFFICE SPACE ON THE SECOND LEVEL, AND THE THIRD LEVEL IS A SPECIAL EVENT SPACE.
