Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
ADVOCACY - OUR KEY FOCUS ON ADVOCACY WAS ON OUTREACH AND EDUCATION IN SEEKING RESOLUTIONS OF SUPPORT FROM CITIES, COUNTIES, AND SCHOOL DISTRICTS ACROSS THE STATE IN SUPPORT OF LEGISLATION THAT WOULD ALLOW STATUTORY CITIES TO USE RCV IF THEY WISHED.
EDUCATION - FVMN BROUGHT SCHOLARS, EDUCATIONAL, BUSINESS, AND CIVIC LEADERS FOR EDUCATIONAL AND FUNDRAISING EVENTS IN SUPPORT OF OUR WORK TO SHARE THEIR ANALYSIS OF WHAT IS BROKEN IN OUR DEMOCRACY, HOW RANKED CHOICE VOTING IS A TOP SOLUTION AND TO GROW AWARENESS AND SUPPORT. SPECIFICALLY, WE ORGANIZED A SERIES OF VIRTUAL CONVERSATIONS WITH DEMOCRACY THOUGHT LEADERS AROUND THE COUNTRY DRAWING A TOTAL OF 1,100 PARTICIPANTS. THESE INCLUDED: (1) POLARIZATION IN A TIME OF CRISIS, WITH CONGRESSMAN DEAN PHILLIPS AND NEW AMERICA SCHOLAR LEE DRUTMAN. (2) CREATING A MORE RACIALLY JUST DEMOCRACY, WITH AMERICAN ACADEMY OF ARTS & SCIENCES CO-CHAIRS DANIELLE ALLEN AND STEPHEN HEINTZ, AND MINNEAPOLIS COMMUNITY LEADER SONDRA SAMUELS, ALONG WITH SPECIAL GUEST SENATOR TINA SMITH. (3) A TALE OF TWO CRISIS: COVID-19 & POLITICAL POLARIZATION, WITH RENOWNED EPIDEMIOLOGIST DR. MIKE OSTERHOLM AND HEALTH POLICY EXPERT AND AUTHOR ANDY SLAVITT. WE PROVIDED EDUCATIONAL MAILINGS TO OVER 40,000 RESIDENTS IN BLOOMINGTON AND MINNETONKA TO EXPLAIN RANKED CHOICE VOTING AND HOW IT WOULD BENEFIT THEIR COMMUNITIES. ON THE MEDIA FRONT, WE PLACED 36 LTES THAT WERE PUBLISHED IN NEWSPAPERS THROUGHOUT THE STATE AND 3 MAJOR OP-EDS IN THE STAR TRIBUNE; AND SENT 3 LETTERS TO EDITORIAL BOARDS AND 11 PRESS RELEASES. LASTLY, IN COLLABORATION WITH BEST BUY AND WOODEN SHOE PRODUCTIONS, WE PRODUCED TWO VIDEOS - WE CAN FIX IT AND A SEAT AT THE TABLE - AND MULTIPLE 15-SECOND DIGITAL SEGMENTS SHOWCASING RCV AS A SOLUTION TO POLITICAL DYSFUNCTION AND A VEHICLE TO CREATING A MORE INCLUSIVE DEMOCRACY. WE HAD 114,000 COMPLETED VIEWS OF EDUCATIONAL VIDEOS LASTING 2 MINUTES OR MORE.
RESEARCH - CONDUCTED A STATEWIDE SURVEY OF CANDIDATES RUNNING FOR LEGISLATURE. OF THE 429 CANDIDATES SURVEYED, WE RECEIVED 115 RESPONSES, PRIMARILY NEW CANDIDATES, AND OF RESPONDENTS, 94 PERCENT EXPRESSED STRONG SUPPORT FOR LOCAL AND STATE USE OF RCV.
