ST. MARY'S HOSPITAL OF SUPERIOR, DBA ESSENTIA HEALTH ST. MARY'S HOSPITAL-SUPERIOR, IS ORGANIZED AND OPERATED EXCLUSIVELY FOR CHARITABLE, SCIENTIFIC, AND EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES. MORE SPECIFICALLY, ESSENTIA HEALTH ST. MARY'S HOSPITAL-SUPERIOR IS CREATED AND ORGANIZED TO OWN, MAINTAIN, OPERATE AND CONDUCT, DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, AND TO ASSIST AND COORDINATE ACTIVITIES OF FACILITIES FOR HEALTH CARE, EDUCATION, CARE FOR THE AGED AND SOCIAL SERVICES IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CHARITABLE WORKS TRADITION OF THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH. IN KEEPING WITH THIS SPECIFIC PURPOSE, ALL WORKS SHALL BE CARRIED OUT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CHARISM OF THE BENEDICTINE SISTERS BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION, A MINNESOTA NONPROFIT CORPORATION.ESSENTIA HEALTH ST. MARY'S HOSPITAL-SUPERIOR HAS A 25-BED CRITICAL ACCESS HOSPITAL AND FOUR CLINICS THAT SERVE SUPERIOR, DOUGLAS COUNTY, AND NORTHWESTERN WISCONSIN. THE HOSPITAL OFFERS EMERGENCY CARE 24 HOURS A DAY, SEVEN DAYS A WEEK AND IS A LEVEL IV TRAUMA CENTER. THE CLINICS OFFER ACCESS TO A RANGE OF MEDICAL SPECIALTIES.ESSENTIA HEALTH ST. MARY'S HOSPITAL-SUPERIOR EMPLOYS APPROXIMATELY 300 FULL TIME EQUIVALENTS. THE HOSPITAL PROVIDED NEARLY 4,000 HOSPITAL PATIENT DAYS AND OVER 50,000 OUTPATIENT VISITS DURING THE FISCAL YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2022. THE CLINICS HAD APPROXIMATELY 115,000 ENCOUNTERS DURING THE SAME TIME PERIOD.DURING THE FISCAL YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2022, ESSENTIA HEALTH ST. MARY'S HOSPITAL-SUPERIOR PROVIDED THE FOLLOWING COMMUNITY BENEFITS: $778,000 IN CHARITY CARE, $1.4 MILLION COSTS IN EXCESS OF MEDICAID PAYMENTS, $29,000 IN COMMUNITY SERVICES, AND $119,000 IN HEALTH PROFESSION EDUCATION.
