Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

RESIDENTIAL ENERGY CONSERVATION - THE NEC OFFERS PROGRAMS TO HELP HOUSEHOLDS REDUCE THEIR UTILITY BILLS, TO IMPROVE THE COMFORT, SAFETY, AND DURABILITY OF THEIR HOMES, AND TO REDUCE GLOBAL WARMING AND OTHER POLLUTION CREATED BY RESIDENTIAL ENERGY USE. DURING FY16, NEC STAFF AND SUBCONTRACTORS PERFORMED 1977 HOME ENERGY AUDITS, AS WELL AS ENERGY STAR AND LEED CERTIFICATIONS FOR HOMEOWNERS AND BUILDERS. IN ADDITION, NEC HOME ENERGY SQUAD TECHNICIANS VISITED 2988 CUSTOMERS' HOMES, INSTALLING KEY CONSERVATION MEASURES LIKE PROGRAMMABLE THERMOSTATS AND COMPACT FLUORESCENT LIGHTS.

HOME ENERGY IMPROVEMENT FINANCING: THE NEC DISTRIBUTED GREATER THAN $900,000 IN LOW-INTEREST, DEFERRED, OR FORGIVABLE LOANS TO HOMEOWNERS FOR INSULATION, FURNACES, BOILERS, OR OTHER SIGNIFICANT HOME ENERGY IMPROVEMENTS, LEADING TO REDUCTIONS IN FUEL USE. FINANCING WAS PROVIDED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE MINNESOTA HOUSING FINANCE AGENCY, RAMSEY COUNTY, AND THE CITY OF SAINT PAUL.

FUEL EFFICIENT TRANSPORTATION: THE HOURCAR CAR-SHARING PROGRAM WAS ESTABLISHED IN 2005 TO REDUCE AIR POLLUTION, VEHICLE CONGESTION, AND CUSTOMERS' OVERALL AUTOMOBILE EXPENSES. IN FY16 HOURCAR EXPANDED ITS FLEET TO 63 FUEL EFFICIENT CARS IN THE TWIN CITIES. AT YEAR END, APPROXIMATELY 2259 CUSTOMERS ("MEMBERS") USED THE HOURCAR FLEET.
