STOCK MARKET GAME: THE STOCK MARKET SIMULA ON (SMS) IS AN EASY AND SIMPLE METHOD OF LEARNING HOW TO INVEST IN THE STOCK MARKET WITHOUT USING REAL MONEY. STUDENTS IN GRADES 3-12 MANAGE HYPOTHETICAL $100,000 INVESTMENT PORTFOLIOS AS THEY COMPETE FOR A CASH PRIZE. TEN WEEK GAMES ARE OFFERED EACH SEMESTER. A SEPARATE YEAR LONG PROGRAM RUNS EACH OCTOBER TO APRIL. THE WISCONSIN STOCK MARKET SIMULA ON IS THE ONLY GAME IN WISCONSIN WHERE STUDENTS ARE AWARDED WITH PRIZES. TRADES ARE MADE VIA THE SMS WEBSITE. TEAMS CAN VIEW THEIR ACCOUNTS, PLACE ORDERS, VIEW CLASS RANKINGS AND RESEARCH STOCKS 24 HOURS A DAY, SEVEN DAYS A WEEK. ALL A TEAM NEEDS IS A COMPUTER WITH INTERNET ACCESS. ECON CHALLENGE: THE STATE OF WISCONSIN PARTICIPATES IN THE NATIONAL ECONOMICS CHALLENGE BY HOLDING A FACE TO FACE COMPETITION IN THREE REGIONS THROUGHOUT THE STATE. THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR TEAMS OF THREE OR FOUR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS (FOUR TEAM LIMIT PER SCHOOL) TO DEMONSTRATE THEIR KNOWLEDGE OF ECONOMICS CONCEPTS IN A COMPETITIVE AND FUN ATMOSPHERE! ANY WISCONSIN STUDENT ENROLLED IN A HIGH SCHOOL COURSE FOR CREDIT DURING THE CURRENT ACADEMIC YEAR CAN PARTICIPATE. STUDENTS CAN COMPETE AT ONE OF THREE HOST SITES AND IN ONE OF TWO DIVISIONS: DAVID RICARDO OR ADAM SMITH. THE DAY STARTS WITH INDIVIDUAL MICRO AND MACRO TESTS. THEN, EACH TEAM TAKES A GROUP EXAM ON INTERNATIONAL ECONOMICS/CURRENT EVENTS. AFTER LUNCH, ALL TEAMS PARTICIPATE IN THE SUPER QUIZ. THE DAY CONCLUDES WITH THE TOP TWO TEAMS IN EACH DIVISION GOING HEAD-TO-HEAD IN THE QUIZ BOWL.
ECONOMIC EDUCATION:THE ORGANIZATION PROMOTES ECONOMIC EDUCATION AND FINANCIAL LITERACY BY PROVIDING TRAINING AND RESOURCES TO TEACHERS TO INSTRUCT STUDENTS ON ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL LITERACY PRINCIPLES. THE ORGANIZATION WORKS WITH TEACHERS STATEWIDE THROUGH THE RELATED CENTERS FOR ECONOMIC EDUCATION, WORKSHOPS, PROGRAMS, AND OTHER RESOURCES. IN ADDITION, THE ORGANIZATION'S ECONOMICS FOR OPINION LEADERS AND ECONOMICS FOR BUSINESS PROFESSIONALS PROGRAMS OFFER SEMINARS ON THE ECONOMIC WAY OF THINKING.
